Brewers Hill Park

For those who are looking for minor league ballparks, I put this one together as practice as I get ready to do the MLB set I promised for V7. Hope you like it.

VOIDED in favor of later attempt.

Very nice, Henry. Looking forward to your future stadium creations. Nice to see someone doing these again.

Henry, I was working on parks such as these awhile back. I did 4 or 5 but thing I was not happy with was how the background is obviously a different "photo" than the field. If anyone has any tricks or hints with photoshop that can help reduce the glaring differences, I'm open to hear them!

Here is one of mine...

Nice looking stadiums...

I think the hardest part about doing backgrounds for stadiums such as these is getting the background in the right perspective. I spent several hours trying to get a vintage turn of the century picture to sync up with a stadium/field image that I wanted to use. I never could get it to fit right. I later decided that I would probably need to find a lot of real stadium photos and take parts of those backgrounds and modify them to my liking. At least then the perspective and sizing will be closer. But it will be a long time before I can create something that I'll be happy with - in part because I'm not that talented, and in part because I just don't have the time to commit.

I've found the same problem. You can't really use any pictures taken from ground level (unless the object of the photo is very far away).

I think you'll have to edit the tone of the field to match the photo as you'd never get the photo to match the field.

Try playing with tints/tones, etc. on the field image. Once you get it right, you can adjust the graininess to match the background.

Yes. Generally speaking you have to look for photos that are taken about 2-3 stories above ground level. As you said, if the major objects in the photos are far away, then it doesn't matter as much.

Mark, I'm going to try and do what you suggested - match the field to the photo texture/granularity. My gut feel is the entire picture will then not be clear - thus many will not like the result, but it will be an interesting investigation.

Teflon, I know, spent countless hours looking for backgrounds that matched his fields in both texture and angle. That is certainly the most time consuming part of the project.

I forgot to say this before, but I do want you guys to know that I appreciate this resurgence in creating new stadiums. I had found Henry/Al/BigCity's early stadiums a long time ago (circa OOTP3) and loved them for my leagues both historical and fictional (I still use some of those). Later I discovered Teflon's stunning creations and was sad to see him fade off. Thanks again for all you guys' hard work - I know (really, I do!) how hard this is.

Perspective is the number one thing I look for in background images, so having the perspective from above ground is key. After spending a few hours looking for backgrounds on the net I found that architectural renderings usually tend to be at the right perspective.
My preference is also to have as much of the image to be computer generated graphics so it blends with the stadium image best.

These renderings also allow me to 'piece' together buildings to create a skyline that is not immediately recognizable. This makes it great for fictional leagues.

I also try to build in a buffer area between the stadium and the background skyline. I usually use trees or a river. Screenshots from various PC golf games usually work best.

Lastly, I try to piece components from 2 or 3 different stadiums together rather than adding a background to an already existing field and seating dimensions. I have no graphical skill, so this usually requires a patchwork of previous parts from stadiums.

I have about 6 new stadiums that are nearing completion, just need to add some advertising, flags and scoreboards

DreamTeams - I had the Eyre City Eclipse in mind when I was working on this one - if they ever decide to move from Sportstime Ballpark.

Thank you blueturf. I'll certainly archive this one and will consider it if the Eclipse ever decide to change venues.

Beautiful work, blueturf.

I am really looking forward to your 6 stadiums...and using them.

It is great that you, BigCity, Bobble and a few others are working on fictional stadiums.

BigCity, that is really fine...glad to see you are adding more fine stadiums to your portfolio.

It doesn't stink LL, it looks good. The only thing I could question is the view at left field. From right field to center, it looks great. Idk what's the problem in left but I think it has.

Henry, have you tried sepia toning the field in that graphic?

I think that just about would tie it all together.

Legend, yours looks great except for the building in LF seems to lean a bit to the right. Other than that, its great and I'd like to know where you guys get the buildings from that you use.

I'm going to play with a couple ideas before I start on the set. City skylines are easier because there are so many of them. Urban neighborhoods are a bit tougher, and residential / suburb locations even tougher.

Fields can be artistic or photos, but photos are a lot harder to improvise and get them to look right. I prefer the artistic representation.

I have to take off my hat to Teflon, however, he took the time necessary to get the field and background pics to match. It's probably that effort that eventually convinced him to quit as well.

Anyway, there are a number of us, it seems, willing to try this time around - so let's continue to share ideas and maybe we'll end up with not just 30 ballparks, but 100 !!!

ps: I don't know how many of you are familiar with the ballpark designs that don't use a "behind home plate" view. I have put together a number of them that can be downloaded from BCB, as have others. If your not hung up on the behind-the-plate view, there are hundreds of ballpark options available. In fact, I have a 100 ballpark fictional set at BCB using this concept.

Using the same technique, this would be the first ballpark in the set...
