Western Hemisphere Baseball League (WHBL) has Two Openings

The Western Hemisphere Baseball League, a fictional, talent-only OOTP6 league, has recently begun the Free Agent Period of its 3rd season and is looking for GMs to fill two of its 32 teams. The league features an unique backstory based on a 'what-if' scenario following the 1994 strike and is headed by a top-notch commish who likes to keep things lively. Recognizable MLB 'defectors' are signed by the league every year, and dedicated members regularly update spreadsheets of all player and team statistics and data and contribute to a growing portfolio of FaceGen player photos and cards. All financials and waivers are on, owners can customize their team logo and nickname, change stadium factors or build a new one, or plan a move. Bonuses are awarded for postseason appearances and regular divisional reports are in the works for the upcoming season. We sim on a 7-8-7 day pattern with exports due every M-W-Sat night. Owners should have v.6.11.

The available teams are:

Salt Lake City Speed
The Speed was in the North American League wild-card race for most of last season before fading a bit down the stretch. They feature a high-powered offense boasting two 30-HR and two 40-HR sluggers, including inaugural season MVP CF Earl Dement. With some work on the pitching staff through free agent signings or trades, the Speed could be right back in the thick of the playoff chase again this year.

Port-au-Prince Nez Longue
The Haitians were the Americas Cup champions in the inaugural 2000 season, and returned to the South American League Continental Series in 2001, only to be knocked off by divisional rival and eventual Cupwinner San Juan. They're also offense-oriented, led by two-time MVP and Ted Williams Award (Outstanding Hitter) winner RF William "Mirror Man" Correa, who is possibly the best player in the WHBL despite having not yet turned 23. They'll also need to add some pitching, but with plenty of salary space and all of their offensive core returning, a little work will get them ready to fight it out with the Senators in the Caribbean Division again in 2002.

If you're interested, go on over to the forums and browse the message boards. You can also take a peek at the full rule set, flip through the player photo and card gallery or check out the league history on Catobase. If you want to claim one of the open teams, go ahead and register a username for the site and shoot the commish (enuttage) a note on PM or leave a calling card on the Waiting List. We've only simmed Day 1 of free agency so far and the amateur draft is right around the corner ... so sign on now to get involved in all the pre-season action.

If you have any questions, you can leave me a PM here, catch me on AIM at JacksonvilleWHBL (or vice-commish JT at SDPadres10), or e-mail me at anselmchen@aol.com. We're looking forward to having some new owners join in on the festivities.

This league has a terrific group of GM's who are not only very active on the messageboard but also do a great job writting articles, generating player pictures, and comming up with all sorts of spreadsheets. If fact many of GM's you'll recognize from this messageboard, including: myself, mauboy, Qwerty, Enuttage (the commish), and disposableheros. Eric has put together a great league.

P.S. Nick Hadsell may be 25 but he's hands down the best player in the league. Oh, and the lack of respect that Uncle Buc and I have gotten in the GM of the year votes is borderline criminal.

It's hard to argue against Hadsell as the best pitcher in the league. I'd say the title of best player better fits Correa or Harold "Thumper" Murphy, though ... but that's a whole discussion of its own. As far as the GM of the Year votes go, I can't speak for the first year as it was before my time, but maybe the rest of the league is less impressed by Indy's accomplishments because they have two heads running the show instead of one.

You have no idea how much I hold him back, he should win automatically. Thumper's not bad.

wasnt before my time

nail.on.head

and i vote Correa. mark my words, barring injury, the guy will go down as the best player in the history of WHBL and we will wind up renaming the MVP award The MirrorMan award when he retires, 16-17 years from now .

edit: oh yea, join our great league

Port-au-Prince has been snapped up ... The Speed remain as the only orphans of the league.

Salt Lake City has now been claimed, so we've currently got a full slate.

Anyone who is interested in joining on in the event of a future vacancy is welcome to sign up on the Waiting List on the forums. Just leave us a note.

Another team has opened up as we get ready for the Rule V draft:

New Orleans Pelicans - BOSI

The Pelicans finished back in the middle of the pack last year, but with what looks like softened competition in the NA Central, could mount a challenge for divisional bragging rights with some creative management. They play in one of, if not *the* top hitter's park in the league, so the offense will come (if you build it ) and the rotation has a few horses at the top. New Orleans also has the #10 ranked farm system in the league, headed by a couple of future infield cornerstones still in their teenage years.

Check 'em out, and let us know if you're interested!
