Looking for random debut database

Hey guys. I know there is one out there somewhere, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Apparently the database has random debuts of all players from 1901-present day. Also, how do the ratings look when the players are imported? I don't want it to be a flop...

Anyhow, if anyone knows where to find it either email it to me or give me the link.

Thanks.

I had one on baseball sim central under the ootp5 area - It is labeled as steverohde's random debut databasee. Works with ootp6 as well. It uses ankits database so it works well. You can start any season, but if you start with 1901 just hit delete career stats when you start the league to have a fresh league. The database creates between 95-140 rookies each year for about 90 seasons.....Works pretty good with a league of 16-24 teams. I would recommend using the Jermanfu Era Settings for a more realistic replay though.

Aww crap...I didn't know I would need MS Access. Anyone know where to get a free copy of even an older version?

You dont need MSACCESS, the file has the required CSV files. You just need to put them into a folder and point the game to the folder. I have not downloaded this from the site but I will make sure that this does not need ACCESS for the importing into OOTP.

I just downloaded the file. Just extract all the files to a stats folder. I named mine C:\RANDOM. I just loaded the file and the 1901 season loaded with 450 players, enough for a 16 team league.....played in 1901 style.....

Another tip, none of the players will be assigned to rosters. After you load the players you will need to go to league setup and hit release, reset and draft. When I created the tables I assigned all players to team "XXX" this allows it to be truly a draft league.

When you create the league (historical) change the eval on Whole Career to Career Remaining.....

Confusion on Readme files...

The only readme you will need to use for the instructions on this are Sandman's. I enclosed BD3's because originally I used his excel random debut program to create the new debut years. I found errors in his program when assigning years to seasons with multiple batting or fielding records. Example a player may have 10 seasons records and 25 fielding records. the Batting records would show up as 1901, 1902, ... to 1910. The fielding records wouls come in as 1901, 1902, .... to 1925.

I moved only the random years part with a new field that I needed over to MSACCESS and wrote the queries that MSACCESS need to create the new debut files fixing some problems, like players with no birth dates (made them 22 at debut) and then had the ACCESS records written to a new CSV file.

This database is randomized but cannot be used with BD3's random kit because of the fielding record issue. The players cannot be re-randomized in this dataset. Originally I was going to release all my MSACCESS tables and queries required to re-randomize the data but then I had the feeling that I would be trouble shooting a lot of ACCESS questions, so I just randomized it once and released it as a dataset.... hope this explains everything.....

It is actually quite interesting, take a look at the master file and you will get an idea of when your favorites will enter the league...... Hank Aaron is a rookie in 1902...

Ahhh..OK. I was just going by what the readme file said. And then i started in a different year. Starting in 1901 seemed to fix it. Thanks.

Found 1 issue if using CATOBASE

This database was created for OOTP5 and CATOBASE 5.4 I found that when I use the new CATOBASE there are issues with the nicknames and birth places getting messed up.

The solution is to open the Master.csv in the random database folder with EXCEL. Delete the nicknames by selecting the column and hitting delete.

This are some birth places that also get weird characters in them. With these you will need to run CATOBASE look at the player.csv file and look at the birth locations. If they look weird (a few of the venezuela records usually get hosed) write the players name down. When you have completed this go into the game and edit the players birth locations within the game to get rid of the characters. If you don't really care what the birth cities, states are there is a easier fix. Simply open the master CSV in the random database with EXCEL and select the state and city columns (I and J) and hit delete to clear the columns. This will have the Birth place just have the country listed in the field in the game.....

These fixes are only required if you are using CATOBASE, sorry about the inconvenience.....I have a copy of the cleaned out Master csv if you want me to email to you (580k compressed) send me a pm with your email address and I will send it out......

SandMan, I started using your database last night. When I setup an initial league with it, my league totals were out of whack. AB was set to 81518 and the rest were all 0. Does this happen for you?

Yes! It is because there is no prior history. I just enter Jermanfus ERA Settings and make adjustment to the Strikeouts and 2B ratings. I decrease the K to about 35000 and the 2B to 4100. I increase the Hits to 27500. Also the BIP is .280 I manually change it to .290, calculate brings it up to .286.

These were just some changes I made for my own preference, I was not trying to duplicate the actual league totals of the era...just something acceptable...

In hindsight I would have used Ankits Normalized as my base data set. I don't remember if it was available or if I used the regular Ankits because I was planning on using BD3's then just expanded on it a bit....I am also thinking of putting out an instruction sheet for people that have ACCESS to create there own Random Debut datasets. This way the person doing the set can use database as a base set (lahman's, any of Ankits, or fictional sets). It is not really difficult just time consuming....takes about two hours to create a random set, but less time after that....

It's a great DB, BTW.

I started running with it... um... about a month ago(?)... after I converted (finally) to OOTP6. Outstanding. My thanks to you, Sand!
