XP Sound Crash still a mystery?

I guess this still has not been addressed? So do we just play the game forever now without sound?????????

I don't see many posts about it - so I guess we few are screwed with XP SP!

Such is life...................WHATEVER

Gee I can't wait till OOTP7 comes out!! Maybe I will have sound w/o crashes!!

I think this'll be about the 50th post about this subject I've said this in.... I should save it to aa notepad file and just copy and paste every time.
There are many of us (including myself) out here who have this problem. There are many, many more who do not. The great majority of OOTP players with DX 9.0 installed do not have the crash problem. Thus far, we have never been able to figure out what is different about our computers from those who don't have the problem. It is not just the conflict between DX 9.0 and OOTP, there is another factor. Since we don't know what that other factor is, Markus has been unable to recreate the problem. And since he cannot recreate the problem, he can't make a fix for it.

I have this problem. So to get around it, I turn off the sound just before the final inning and finish the game without sound. It seems to avoid crashing.

I have this problem. I had an old computer and the sound worked fine. Now a few days ago, I just bought a Dell Demension XPS with 2GB of Ram, 160 GB HD, Pentium 4...now the game crashes. It is disappointing that I actually have a much better computer, but now can't listen to sound on the game...just doesn't seem right.

I can't turn the in game sound off before the ninth inning. Other than hitting the icon at the top right of the screen - is there another way to get to the main menu and turn the sound off??

Same here - I have a new Dell with all kinds of great specs and yet - can't finish a game of OOTP with sound on.

Hmmm . . . hitting the upper right sound icon works for me - although it does take the program 20 seconds or so to respond and carry on with the game.

The only other option I can think of is to minimize OOTP and open the game configuration routine located in the program folder. There might be a toggle for sound, but off the top of my head, I'm not positive, since I'm not at home right now.

Sound .wav files

I noticed that the .wav files for the "Ambience" (i.e. crowd noise) can fad in and out too. So, I removed the "Abience" .wav files and was able to play out a lot more games, but then the game still crashed on one or two occasions. What I am noticing, perhaps I'm wrong, is that the game seems to crash if the game is trying to make a particular noise or something right at the end of the last out. In other words, I don't have much of a problem during the game, it's just right after the final out.

I'm wondering as a possible "fix" to this problem, perhaps there is a way to have as an option that the games will not make any sound (cheering, etc.) on a final out of the game. Not sure, but if this is somehow automatic and an option for us, maybe it would solve the problem. I say this because it just seems like the game is trying to do something with the music right at the end that causes the problem. Maybe an easy patch could do that with the music/sounds at the end. Any thoughts?

BKL - I think your onto something there. The crowd noise at the end of the game has been key in the crash. Sometimes there has been no crash but more times than any it does crash and sometimes it will record the game and sometimes it will not.
