Probably a dumb CatoBase question....

I'm a newbie at this. It took me forever to even figure out how to generate the .csv files for the stat import.

I clicked on "Import Stats" and got an error that said:
Quote:
There is a problem importing around line 82 in the file \players.csv.

The most likely cause is an invalid character in the HomeState or Nickname fields.

Open this file in Notepad and uncheck WordWrap. Examine the above line and surrounding lines for any unusual characters and import again.
I found a number of weird characters that occur in OOTP when the nickname or hometown is too long. I went through the file and edited out every one of them, saved it, then went back and tried to import again.

Same Result

I reopened the file and none of my edits had stuck. The weird characters were still there.

I tried again and the file still wouldn't edit.

I tried to edit it in Excel. Same damn problem

Perhaps this is a Notepad issue, but I can't figure out why I can't edit it. It seems like such a simple fix.

Please help.

Try editing them in OOTP and then re-running the exporters. I never had any luck editing the csv files and getting them to work.

I'm having problems with Cato also. I'm at work now, so I can exactly go through with it now, but if someone who reads this thread can hit me up on AIM later tonight, I'd appreciate the help. The username is mdxbox.

Yeah, like the others have said you have to do the nickname editting in OOTP then save it and re-do Catobase. For some reason it doesn't save if you do it in the CSV file. I had the same problem when I started using Catobase.

if you edit the .csv file with notepad, word, etc and then run the import again you will simply copy over the file. Instead after you run make the changes, go to the options menu in Catobase and uncheck "run exporter...", then hit import stats. This will make catobase use the .csv files that are already created (and edited) instead of re-running exporter. Of course, the only long-term solution is to edit the name/hometown/nickname in OOTP, otherwise you end up making the .csv corrections every year

UGH! I wanted to avoid that. Hopefully, the next version of OOTP will have space for about 10 more characters for Names, Nicknames and Hometowns.

Well if you edit it in OOTP, then the next season when you run CATObase again, you won't have to go back through and re-edit all of the csv files again.
