THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 1, ISSUE 1

JANUARY 1, 1901:
With the dawn of a new century, we have gathered together our dubious writing skills and propose an endeavor of monumental proportions. Baseball is a game of the Americas, unique to our sense of history, and deserving of a written record, a Chronicle if you will. Organized baseball is filled with drama, heroics and tragedy. We aim to bring such tales to the public for years to come. Along the way, we will highlight a up-and-coming rookie player whom we feel is destined for stardom, and track him through retirement. Without further ado, here is our first subject:

Prospect Watch: ROY HOBBS

Called The Natural for his easy swing and obvious athleticism, this 20 year-old gentleman was signed to the team from his home state, the New York Giants. He will most likely back up George Van Heltren in CF, but it shouldn't be long before he is patrolling the green grass himself since ol' Georgie's getting up there.

Talents (Con/Gap/HR/Eye/Avoid): 96/66/60/70/60
Current Ratings: 30/45/31/36/16

This looks like it'll be the best create-a-player thread soon, surpassing TWB.

If Will Miller II does better than the first of course

Nothing will ever surpass TWB. I'll settle for completing it through modern day. At least now I can attempt CatoBase.

Well if this league goes under like those other two, them maybe not

THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 1, ISSUE 2

SEPTEMBER 6, 1901:
The Baltimore Orioles were obviously much better than the rest of the AL from the get-go. They led from wire to wire, and eventually won the pennant by 19 games. They have the top team batting average and the top staff as well. Their dominance has garnered some interest from investors in New York City, and rumors are swirling that a move may be in their future. They were led by Mike Donlin and John McGraw all season long, and their rotation of Stan Yerkes, Harry Howell, and Joe McGinnity is unmatched. Those in the know believe that they could be at the top for many years to come.

The champions of the National League were a bit of a surprise. Most people assumed that the Pittsburgh Pirates would walk away with the pennant at season's end, but they faltered and their cross-state rivals from Philadelphia took quick advantage of their slump, roaring past them in August. A large part of their late run can be attributed to their young phenom, Doc White, who became their ace in his first season in the bigs.

PROSPECT WATCH

ROY HOBBS
: Roy had limited appearances in his first season, but he's showing that he's a quick learn. He has worked quite a bit on avoiding the strikeout.

Sorry this is going so slow. I've had some problems with the game, plus I'm trying to learn how to do CatoBase with multiple bumps in the road, and I can't flip the season until I finish.

Ideally I'd like to get some webspace so everyone can check out the League pages and CatoBase.....but so far it's been rough.

WOOHOO!!!!

It took me three hours to figure out, but I finally got CatoBase to work!

Now all I need is webspace, and to figure how to build a site. I'm sure it's not too hard, but I have some major gaps in my knowledge of computers and such.

THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 2, ISSUE 1

JANUARY 1, 1902:
The first season of this twentieth century has seen an explosion of interest in the game of baseball. Followers of both the National League and American League each claim that their version of the game is better. Some are even clamoring for a series of games between the two league champions to determine the true champ. It remains a possibility for the future, but for now the leagues have agreed to participate in a combined draft of potential players in order to divide them up more quitably. If they can agree on this, a "World Series" shouldn't be too far off. Baltimore should continue to dominate in the American League, but we expect the National League race to be a bit tighter. Pittsburgh, Chicago and Cincy should all compete with the Phillies for the crown this year.

Prospect Watch: SAM "SAMBO" KINGMA

This young fella is made for first base. He's a big galoot with long ape-like arms and a demeanor to match. Opponents running down the line had best be wary. Kingma plays for keeps, and he isn't above sticking an elbow in the solar plexus of a runner. He may play a little dirty, but you'll never meet a fiercer competitor. Teammates will love him. Opponents will hate him. And he's loyal to a fault. Whichever team drafts him will have a player as loyal as man's best friend. He also has a knack for the longball that is rarely seen. In the right conditions, he may even hit 15-20 HR per year. Can you imagine that??

Talents (Con/Gap/HR/Eye/Avoid): 79/75/99/70/50
Current Ratings: 24/36/21/24/18

THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2

SEPTEMBER 6, 1902:
Unlike last year, the Orioles actuially had some competition, and, surprisingly, it was from the Cleveland squad. Perhaps their new moniker helped them get over the "Blues" of last season's 7th place finish. The AL is showing signs of giving the Orioles a run for their money. In order to stay on top, they may need to relocate to a bigger city...perhaps New York???

The Pirates of Pittsburgh took back the crown that they felt should have been theirs in 1901, winning by one miniscule game over the Phillies, despite only winning 5 of 19 games vs. Philly in the regular season. you can be certain that baseball wil once again be popular all across Pennsylvania next year as they race for a spot in the proposed 1903 World Championship.

THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 3, ISSUE 1

JANUARY 1, 1903:
Baseball fans are rejoicing everywhere! The National League and American League have come to a tentative agreement to hold a "World Series" to truly determine baseball's overall champion. Finally we will lay the "what if?'s" to rest...at least until the offseason In the AL, the Orioles moved to New York City as expected, renaming themselves the Highlanders. The Boston franchise also changed their name to the Pilgrims. Cleveland considered changing their name, but in the end they decided to stick with the Bronchos* until something better comes along. The Highlanders remain the favorites, while in the NL, it should come down to the Phillies and Pirates.

* In the "real world" they changed their name to the Naps in honor of Napoleon LaJoie, but since Nap stayed with Philly, there was no reason to change. They'll switch to the Indians when the time comes.

Prospect Watch: WILL "NETSKY" MILLER II

Miller comes into the draft prepared to debut in the majors. He is a bit older than the previous two, and should be able to handle the pressure. This fella has tremendous ability to make contact. Eventually he should be competing for a batting title. He has a bit of power and he can steal a base or two as well. His only weakness is his arm. For a centerfielder, Netsky has the strength of a wet noodle. He's lucky to get it to his cutoff man, and you'll never see him gun a man down at the plate. Most likely his bat will make us forget it all. He should go within the first 2 or 3 picks.

Talents (Con/Gap/HR/Eye/Avoid): 110/60/50/60/50
Current Ratings: 44/32/33/28/29

THE CHRONICLE - VOLUME 3, ISSUE 2

SEPTEMBER 10, 1903:
The new name worked like magic for the Boston Pilgrims as they won their first pennant of the new century by one game over the two-time defending champs from New York. This could be the start of a long rivalry. Cy Young, the wily vet, led Boston with a resurgence in his game.

The Phillies took back their crown from their cross-state enemies in Pittsburgh. Gotta love those rivalries, huh? The season has one more step, though, as Phildelphia now needs to face off against the Pilgrims in the first ever World series. Expectations are high as this series will likely determine in which direction baseball heads for the next few decades.

PROSPECT WATCH

ROY HOBBS
: Hobbs had a rough year, proving that he may have been brought up a bit too early. He's still quite young and there's no denying his potential.

SAM KINGMA: Sambo vaulted through AA and AAA with ease before being traded to the Pirates on 7/16/03 for CF Tommy Leach. Pittsburgh immediately promoted him to the majors and Kingma responded by tying the NL lead in homers in only 202 AB. Something tell's me that this trade is going to bite the Beaneaters in the ass.
