What A Lucky Bit Of Luck

A poem by Dennis Lee.

"What a lucky bit of luck,
Three garbagemen in a garbage truck.
One has a pan,
One has a can,
And one is a big fat Canadian."

What does this have to do with anything? I'm glad you asked.

The ACL has an opening for an owner to take over the Montreal Expos. (Canadian garbage team, Canadian poem, get it?) We use ootp6 and are in our 17th season (That's about 3 or so years of real life). We sim 3 times a week in real life, 7 days a sim of league life.

The teams are a mix of real players from all eras in baseball. It's an all-star type league but the twist is when all players have good ratings, then some players with good ratings are dogs. It makes the league challenging and the chicks flock to see the games.

Feel free to visit the site (link above) and email the commissioner (link on site) if you are interested in joining. I believe I can also say, without hesitation, that we are the only league to feature Bud-Mail(TM), the only method of communication endorsed by Mr. Selig.

This league is open to any owner of the game. If you're a newbie and have never played in an online league then this might be the league for you. We have a lot of sharks looking for chum, and chum, you might be it.

Join for the history, stay for the Bud-Mail (tm).

Don't miss your chance.

Fine. We have a league. Been running for 3+ years in real time. 17 seasons. What's the problem? Not stable enough? Looking for a fly-by-night league? This league not challenging enough? Don't like my poems?

I'm tired of trying to "sell" this league when we get an opening. I think it shows in my attitude.

No, this isn't the "best league ever" as some leagues claim. No, we don't take applications but accept people on a first come-first served basis. We encourage people new to online leagues to join.

No, our average age isn't 16. (Although there is nothing wrong with being 16. I wish at times I was). Maybe we are too mature. Our average owner age is in the 30's somewhere.

I encourage those people who are looking for a league to join that offers a challenge to not join this league. We don't want you. In fact, you can't join. All applications (which we don't take) won't be accepted. If you want to join a league, find a different one.

Do not go to the website at www.vacant.cc/acl and even look at the league. Do not read the front page stories filled with humor and love for your fellow man. Do not browse thru the history of the league (the fabulous catobase) to see what it means to the players on the field who play the game.

Please stay away. We are only open to those who don't want to join.

Thank you.

In a remarkable bit of reverse psychology, I think I've just decided to quit.

Join this league. I, of course, have the good sense NOT to join, but that's because I'm Martin's estranged illegitimate son.

I play piano in the lounge of the Holiday Inn off of Interstate 20, Dad. Please come see me play, Dad.

I love you, Dad.

Yes, he is a young "fan" from Rotterdam, and yes, I am Dutch although I currently live in the US.

It was during a game against their nemisis Ajax, and is a true reflection of the intelligence of the Feyenoord supporters...
