some Catobase problems, need suggestions...

Been using Catobase for quite a while now but there are a couple nagging things that are bothering me that I just cant seem to solve. I am in the 20th season for my league. Bascially my procedure has been after the playoffs finish each year I backup the year to its own directory, generate the reports in OOTP and then run cato and import the stats.

That all works fine but I have this one year that didnt export the playoff results, like it didnt even happen, even though it is identical to every other season. Nothing postseason related imported,, the stats on the player pages, only thing that seems to show up is on the team page for that year it shows the series result but thats it, nothing in the manager record either. Anyone have this problem before? and can anyone suggest a fix to the export files so i can get it to import correctly? Ive looked at the postseason logs and it all looks normal, meaning looking the same as the other years but I dont know.

now also recently, my draft classes arent being imported at all, the last 4 seasons have shown nothing. agian nothing has changed and im not doing anything differently. anyone have any ideas?

Yes, for some odd reason, those happen sometimes. Best move is deleting the last season imported and try again. For the drafts to show up, remember that you have to import player histories, so if you are missing some of them and have those seasons available, create another Cato Access file, import the season, close the utility, open the file on Access, find "Drafts", and then copy and paste the drafts on the file where you have all the stuff.

For the playoffs, kinda the same, but don't need to create another file. Simply open it on Access, look for TeamStats, find the season and insert the playoff results on the proper fields.

I have experienced similar things. I am pretty sure it is not a catobase issue. I think OOTP's files are inconsistent every so often, whether it is a an extra or missing character or blank field. It could just be some normal event that occured in your league that made the file write out slightly different. I noticed after my recent draft that the draft log in OOTP duplicated one round. That is, the players names repeated. Why it happened I don't know.

The CSV exporters extract the info the same way everytime, cato just reads from the access database that the exporters create. It is an unfortunate chain of errors that occur: dat file is different, then the exporters extract the incorrect data, cato compiles the incorrect data, cato posts the incorrect data

i decided to try rebuilding my entire database agian from the beginning, finally it fixed the problem with the missing postseason from one year however still none of the player history (the text file) get updated from the same peroid as before in addition to the draft history. It gets even more bizaare, i tried just importing one of those seasons as a stand alone database and it imported everything like it should, so there cant be anything wrong with the season files. To fix this would require me to manually enter in all that data it seems, unless someone can think of something else. cato should be pulling the histories from the league directory correct?

I assume import player histories is checked in the options?

If so, maybe there is a bug in CATO now where when that button is checked it still isn't smart enough create the CSV file for player history??? In the old days, when we had to create the CSV files manually, we had to run a separate batch program to create the player history CSV file. If we didn't run that separate program, then CATO could not create player history. Maybe now CATO creates the CSV itself, it isn't executing that behind the scenes, it only executing the batch file to create the regular CSV files???

its checked, but i ran them all together, i imported every season here in the last couple hours, and then built the html files and ended up with the exact same result as before with no history being update from after 1909 season and with maybe 2 draft picks per season in the draft history. so why would it work up till then and then stop, especially when if i import the 1910 season as a stand alone it works fine.. its just weird.

Dave- these tools you were talking about, is that something that still is available to use? is there some way I could build those files for the draft and history and then do an import on those seasons agian. Thanks agian for everyones input.

All I am talking are CommishJoe's CSV exported. They come with CATO 6.0.0. But previous to 6.0.0 CATO user's downloaded and executed them separately. It doesn't sound like that is your problem otherwise it wouldn't of worked in previous season.

well little update, i messed around with this all weekend. i decided to try something to see if i could figure out what caused the error. i rebuilt up to the place where the errors occured, and discovered if I imported the seasons by themselves in their own database everything gets imported fine so obviously cato is having trouble adding these years to my existing data, which just doesnt make sense. anyway it looks easy enough to get the draft players fixed, the history looks like it will take a bit more work. all the history is imported except players who did not play that season (retired players). what I am asking is, are the draft and phistory files the only ones I will need to edit for this to make sure cato will build draft and player history website pages correctly?
