would like input on database I'm working on

I am in the process of a working on a Lahman style database for a new solo league idea. The basic premise is that a new professional league was born in reaction to the 1981 MLB work stoppage.

The league will begin play in 1984 and feature MLB cup of coffee and veteran benchwarmers/utility players. They will debut in the year after their last MLB season 99% of the time (Nelson Norman and David Hostetler appear after their last season of significant playing time). For example, SS Lenny Faedo last appeared in a MLB during the 1984 season. His debut year in the database will be 1985.

For most players, I am tweaking their MLB stats or using MLB averages so that everyone imports somewhere between slightly below average to slightly above average. Players that had their careers cut short due to injury (John Fulgham, Andy Rincon, etc...) will appear in the database as though those injuries never happened.

I wanted to have the first year of the league (and database) be 1983, but didn't have enough players to fill 12 teams. By starting in 1984 and including some former 1st round picks and american-born japanese league players that never played in the MLB, each of the 12 teams will start with 32 players in 1984.

I've only entered pitching stats for the 1984 debut season and have at least a month or two of work ahead of me before starting. I plan on making the initial league file and database available for anyone that is interested in it.

Anyway, here's my dilemma... most players will enter the league at 28 - 32 years old meaning they will only be in the league for 3 - 5 years. There are a few 21 - 23 year olds, but they will mostly be league average or below roster fodder.

Any suggestions/comments on the database and/or league idea?!?

I would subtract 2-3 years off of each player. This way your 21-23 year olds will probably be in the high minors and you will get an additional 2-3 years usage of the players you have.
