Vandergadt in trouble again?

This is the quote that has the media jumping all over Vanderjagt this morning.

My question is, why?

Why is it so terrible to show confidence in your team? I know that people talk about "bulletin board material" - but come on! This is a harmless statement from a guy confident in his team, and the media is making himout to be some kind of pariah!

Man... I wonder what the media would do if Muhammad Ali was still boxing today. Part of his draw were his little poems about taking guys down...

The media should just put their pens down and keep their yaps shut for a change. let the players between the lines deal with the comments... they are capable of handling it themselves as Tedy Bruschi illustrates with his answer to Vanderjagt..

Vanderjagt.

It's comical to think that the Patriots were not going to go all out and try their best to win the game, but now that the kicker for the Colts said something, they will give a complete effort.

God forbid someone think their team is good enough to win! All he did was tell the truth and not be PC. The media is pathetic and cant create thoughtful and insightful stories, all they can do is make tabloid headlines out of nothing. 99% of the sports writers/broadcasters are a joke, and this is the best they can come up with.

It's the NFL and it's the media.

When you mix the two together you get stories about nothing being drawn out into something incredible.

His confidence isn't the point. He's a kicker, he's not out there on the front lines. He's basically relying on his teammates to prove out his statements; he's not doing it himself. Ali talking is one thing -- he's stepping into the ring and taking the beating or dishing it out. But Bruschi said it best: "You want me to comment on what a kicker said?"

As for the media, it's their job to sell papers, to make ratings, to get people to read/watch what they're saying. Don't blame them because people like to read that stuff. Blame the people that read that stuff.

I sympathize with you (I busted out Civ III Conquests and was up until 1:00), but I'm still going to mention that the way you have the last four letters of his name spelled is still crazy.

I heard a sound clip this morning of an opposing player who called him by the name "Vanderjerk". Anybody hear it and know who it was?

He sure as heck is doing it himself if his team is relying on him to kick a 50 yard field goal into the wind to win a game.

No one likes to think much about the kickers, but rest assured if they muff an important punt or blow an easy chip shot field goal, they sure as heck will get the grief for it from their teammates and coaches.
