You should add to the poll "Tried to use but could not get to work". I would love to have it for my league but after bashing my head against my monitor after a billion errors I gave up for my own well being. I do use BOSI, its works like a charm.

that's funny, because CATO worked beautifully for me, but BOSI i've never gotten to work on mine with all the errors and DB calls that did.....nothing.

I'm with Crackerjack. I've tried using Catobase in the past and could not get it to work for the life of me. I'll try again some day!

How recently have you guys tried using it? Since the last round of revisions to the program, it's been pretty much falling-off-a-log easy for me. I too had a lot of problems with inexplicable errors with OOTP5-specific versions of Catobase and had to spend a lot of time figuring it out, but since Cato updated it for OOTP6, it's become pretty much push-button simple. At least in my experience. I'm sure other people have had plenty of errors, judging by the posts to this forum.

Oh, and I can't get BOSI to work either, to echo what canadiancreed said.

Catobase gets mixed reviews...many say it is a must have...but you do see a lot of threads about problems on the Mods Forum...they seem to be about 50% of the threads here. That has scared me off...since I am woefully inept with computers...I must have step-by-step instructions or it is no go with me on any installations...I am not intuitive when it comes to computers.

I have read that the latest version is much easier to use than previous versions. Halofan's wife is designing a website for me and he is helping me with it. He says it is not difficult to use.

Others like DreamTeams said it just takes too much time to process it each season.

I am satisfied with the Almanac.

Like others have mentioned, the ease of use of the Catobase has improved significantly since I first started using it. IMO, it is quite easy to implement now. For me, the biggest problem is not setting up the Catobase itself, but the amount of time it takes go generate and upload the HTML reports.

very. i find it much easier than BOSI, although I feel that both are good products.

If both were integrated into the game somehow, I feel that OOTP woudl be best of breed for baseball sims for a very long time.

Glad i'm not the only one. I will admit the second one is much better than the first, but certain things still are unusuable

Cato speed

If you have a virus scan program running (which I hope everyone does), disable it when running catobase and you will improve the data extraction part quite a bit. I have found that I can import the data in half the time just by shutting off virus scan. The creation of html pages will also speed up.

It is a memory intensive utility, so I usually close other programs when running it, saves a lot of time, e.g., email, OOTP, Internet. Incidentally, OOTP with virus scan disabled sims about 75% faster.

The only downside to CATOBASE is that if you have a lot of season it can take a long time to create the HTML pages. I had the program run for almost two DAYS (yes DAYS) to create the pages for a league that was 80+ seasons.

I could never get it t owork back when it was still called OOTP History, but have had absolutely no problems with it since and consider it an absolute must-have. I finally gave up on ever figuring out how to make BOSI work.

I foudn that if you want year-by-year pages for your teams, you ahve to generate the pages every year. probably dont have a certain option checked

There is an option to regenerate all years when you generate HTML. You'd want to check this option when you are importing multiple seasons at once and don't want to generate HTML in between every season.

Actually, the option is "current year only" under the output menu. Check this if you already have html files created up through the last season. This will save a lot of time b/c it only creates html files that change when adding the current year. Otherwise, it will recreate all the files whether they change or not.

If you have multiple seasons that have not been input into catobase and dont' have html pages, you would first import each season one at a time, then run create html after you have imported all your seasons. It may take awhile if you have a lot of seasons. What I mean is that if you have multiple seasons to do, it is not faster to create "current year" html pages after each import. It is better to wait and do it all at once.

There is also an option to "recalculate all seasons" for win shares, but that is different and you shouldn't have to do that.

Use it. Love it. Can't do without it. Since Jeff seems to have vanished, I've had problems with the latest iteration of it, and had to roll back to a previous version. Since then, no issues.

I like both CB and BOSI, but agree with a couple others here that CB is a ton easier to use.

I got so damn frustrated with BOSI that I just had Joe install it for me last time I needed to get it on my (his) server, just to save me the headache.

This sums it up for me as well. I can't ever see not using it now though.

Use it for my online leagues I run.. CIBL Catobase & NTBL Catobase

I used to have all sort of issues with it until the last set of updates, but nothing since.
