College Baseball?
Hey,
DISCLAIMER: If you wish to skip the pitch and head straight to the college talk, scroll down past the links to where it says 'COLLEGE' in all caps. Thank you. I'm here on behalf of the SEBL. We're a league currently finishing up our 4th season (2007), and are one of the most in depth leagues you'll find. Just a quick run down of some of the things we offer that others may not: - Players Union (http://jahzase.proboards15.com/inde...ard=union) that functions like a real one - Living CBA document (http://jahzase.proboards15.com/inde...&num=1098031043) that governs Officials and Players alike - Agents - An in depth Media Section (run by me: http://jahzase.proboards15.com/index.cgi?board=media) where writing increases your IMAGE which can lead to product endorsement contracts, as well as potential Fan Interest boosts, increasing your stock even more - Ability to actually SPEND the money you earn on homes, additions, and other boosts that increase your Player Ratings. If your player isn't great from the start, he doesn't have to stay that way! - Public Relation and Graphic Firms, another outlet to spend your money on TOP QUALITY media articles written for you, as well as custon Bio Pics, sigs, logos, etc. - Mature, knowledgable, active members (myself included). We have great discussions about OOTP, the league itself, Major League Baseball, as well as a vast array of Off-Topics from video games to movies, to music, to anything you wish to bring up. - Ability to BUY and SELL a TEAM, with the money you earn as a player - The ability to craft and tailor a contract to your liking: Any clause your heart desires, incentives, option years. You want a six pack of Heineken before each game? Get a GM to agree to it and it's yours! - A bank that loans money to players who wish to purchase houses, additions, boosts, teams, etc. on interest. - The door is open to anything your heart desires. You dictate the workload. You can sign up as a player, sign a contract, and just check up on him at leisure. You can participate in the Players Union, be an Agent, try your hand at managing, GMing, possibly even Owning. The possibilities are truly endless. Our Commissioner Jason Howard is a great man who is open to any and all ideas. Our message board home can be found here: http://jahzase.proboards15.com/index.cgi Check it out for 10 minutes and if you hate it, forget I even mentioned it. HOWEVER, now on to my real reason for posting. What I think is a great addition to any league. I, Brendan Horton, starting in the SEBL 2008 season, will be running a six college league, to prepare players for the majors. Let me explain. You sign up as a player, and upon signing up, say whether you'd like to go straight into the Draft, or you'd like to commit to one of the available colleges to develop first. Both injuries and fatigue are turned off in the college league, so your player is guaranteed to start (provided there isn't another human player already playing your position at one of the schools) and never get injured. The league is filled with COMP players, who will be deleted as a human player commits to that school to take their place. Now, how do we lure people to college instead of going after the money in the Majors? Boosts, of course. The way it works is this. Depending on what school you attend (chart will be below), you will be able to choose, once per month, an attribute of your player you would like to receive a +1 in, and will be given it. This amounts to 6 points added to your ratings in a given season, plus more possibility for improvement, as you will be getting a ton of at bats, still going through a 162 game season, and playing every game. Now, the way the schools hand out boosts are as follows: FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY – Discipline/Eye & Speed/Stealing & Bunt* LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY – Range & Fielding Pct. & Arm** ffice:smarttags" /><?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comlace>MIAMI (FL) </ST1 lace></st1:City>– Contact & Avoid K’s<st1:Street><st1:address>OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY</st1:address></st1:Street> – Homerun Power & Gap Power RICE UNIVERSITY – Control & Endurance & GB%*** UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA – Stuff & Movement & Velocity**** *At the end of a season, you will receive a +1 on either Sac Bunt or Bunt for Hit Ratings, at your choosing. **At the end of a season you will receive between 1-5 (depending on the roll of a die in an AIM chat) added onto the Arm Strength of your choosing. ***At the end of a season, you will receive between 1-5 (depending on the roll of a die in an AIM chat) added onto your Ground Ball Percentage, as a Pitcher. ****At the end of a season, you will receive a +1 on your Velocity, as a Pitcher. So, if you ask me, this is a pretty cool idea. It allows your player to do some bigtime developing before heading to the Major Leagues (where all of his attributes, ratings, etc. will be manually transfered) and being drafted to start his Major League career. I think it adds an area of depth I haven't seen before in player leagues. Players will be allowed to 'Redshirt' a year of college to spend it in the Minors, where PD chances as well as rating advancement are both greater. They will then still have 4 years of college eligibility. The SEBL Commissioner and I are currently working on another added bonus to players who actually choose to spend all 4 years in college before entering the draft, rewarding players who "get their education" We have ideas we're kicking around, and the college scene will certainly grow more and more prior to the 2008 inagural season. Oh, and did I mention? I'll be running a manual playoff mini-College World Series, after the regular season. So, check it out. The SEBL boards can be found here: http://jahzase.proboards15.com/index.cgi Head to the "Join Here" Forum and say that you'd like a player created for the 2008 season (specify if you'd like him to enter the draft or you want to try your hand at college ball first.) As the guy who runs the college league, I suggest you give it a shot. It's something I haven't seen done elsewhere, and should be a great experience for all. I'm a relaxed guy who likes to enjoy the game, and I think you'll enjoy it greatly. Contact me on AIM at bigh0rt. Thanks for your time guys. Take care. - Brendan Horton <!-- / message --> |
