Where will Beltran land?

With talks heating up, I was wondering where everyone thought he would land.

If the Astros don't go up to 100 million, Beltran is going to the Mets.

Despite the losing over there, I think as a player you have to feel like the team has the right general manager in place to make them contenders quickly. And in the NL East, that can happen in a heartbeat with just a couple of right moves.

I don't see the Tigers being serious unless everyone else just dropped out. They're just dropping their name in in hopes something goes seriously wrong for everyone else.

The Cubs don't have a chance unless they can get Sosa off their hands. Since that's not happening, Beltran to Chicago is not happening.

I doubt the Yankees will even seriously consider Beltran unless he buys into being a Yankee. It's true what the Daily News reported. There's no way the Yanks are going to pay Beltran more than ARod or Jeter and there is definitely no way the Yanks want to feel the sting of Giambi again.

I am going to weigh in and say the Astros. I know it will kill Boras to refuse the highest offer from the Mets, but I truly think that Beltran wants to play in HOU, and Boras is just using everyone else to try to drive up the price they pay.

Since when did a guy who is coming off a "career year" of .267 - 38 - 104 become worth $16 mil per season for 7 years?

Since the Yankees and the Mets expressed interest.

Since that guy was on a tear in the playoffs and GM's percieve that he's "clutch".

I think he is worth somewhere on the order of $15mm a year, maybe a bit more. There are few players with his offense who can give plus defense and plus baserunning.

But, not 5 years from now.

I'm surprised the Tigers haven't already offered 7/$122

Gut feeling is that he's a Met. Based on past performance, he isn't worth that kind of money but he is just entering his prime. Mets are starting their own TV network in 2006 so i can see them loading up to make a big splash. Word is after Beltran, they'll still go for Delgado.

I'm sure the Mets realize that if they sign Beltran, Delgado is saying yes.

We might even have the two work together with Pedro in agreeing to bring the entire Latin flavor to New York.

It would be huge for the Mets to have all three Latin players in New York.

1. Fans will stop wearing Red Sox caps.
2. The Mets will start to draw 3 million fans a game again. Seriously.

Beltran and his wife both like Houston so that is a little added weight for them.
I almost want to see the Mets get him so I can see the Braves pound on them again. I wonder when the Mets are going to learn that throwing money at a problem is no way to solve it.

I think it will be a dead heat between the Mets and the 'Stros....but, I fear the Mets will be able to outbid, and therefore, acquire Beltran.

But, really, a full season in Houston from Carlos would be nice to see.

Omar is already pushing the latin flavor, pointing out to Beltran all the latinos who populate the front office and coaching staff; Manuel, Bernazard, etc.

My guess is the Mets will have Merengue Night once a month rather than just once all season.
