Catobase and Designated Hitters
I'll admit, I haven't examined every screen, every heading ...... yet.
But is there a reference to the DH role anywhere in the stats, or is the position simply left blank in the batting statistics? |

I must not know what you mean or something?
My DH is listed as a DH in my batting stats... http://www.hitforthecycle.com/cato/teams/sea/2008.html See Shabala the 2nd one down. |

Yep, not a single one. I guess as long as the player batting record is intact, it won't affect the long run analysis. I just thought it'd be interesting to see that role treated as positional. When you have that designation in Catobase, does it show up as well in your Positional Starters page? So, there's my answer. Have none, show none. Simple. |

Yeah, I would imagine CATO uses the designation that the player has at the time the csv export occurs.
My position page does not show a DH position. However it is smart enough to know that the DH may have played other positions and when you look at his player card you see he has his fielding stats for those days he played in the field as you would expect. |

Now I'm wondering if it serves any purpose or is worthwhile for me to look back at these histories and see if any of these players have (and likely so) been used consistently as DH and actually change their designation. But is that one of those changes the AI will simply adjust later if it so desires? And besides that there are teams, I'm sure, that use one player for DH vs lefties and another right, so I might find it difficult to even identify those without starting now to watch the lineups more carefully to make those kind of notations. Ahh....maybe I should just say "screw it", it's really not that big of a deal. |
