New hard drive...e-License says my license has expired
I had to install a new hard drive.
When I tried to open OOTP6, a window came up and it showed "ootp6.exe" and said my license had expired. I did not know it could expire. I sent e-License an e-mail and asked them to tell me how to relicense it. Haven't heard from them yet. Can my license expire? I tried to unlicense it, but it said I had to connect to the internet. Sorry, I not very computer-literate...I don't know how to open the game and be on the internet at the same time. I went on the internet, then minimized it, hoping this would do it...and opened up the relicensing window, but it said I was not connected to the internet. Please help. Thanks. |

This is just a guess, but it sounds like you have "used" all 3 of your licenses. Have viatech release all of your licenses and you should be able to license the new hard drive.

I just had a harddrive die and had to replace it. I sent viatech an e-mail with my order ID number explaining the situation. I had a reply the next day that my licenses (OOTP3 - OOTP6, ITP, and TPF) had been reissued.
To me, it sounds like you are behind a firewall. That's been the only time I've been able to connect to the internet, but the e-license is unable to connect. andymac is right in that your two licenses for OOTP6 sound like they were used. If Viatech has all the info it needs, they should reissue 1 license for you to relicense the game. If the e-license program (the one that licenses OOTP before you can play it) still cannot connect to the internet, try disabling any firewall you may be running. Hope that helped, but I fear it has not.

It depends on what drive you replaced. Do you use a one or two drive system? If you have one drive, then trying to unlicense won't work as the elicense running on your machine does not currently know of any licenses for your game. The elicense server, however, still shows you as having two licenses out and in use, so it won't issue another (the "expired" error) If you have two drives, then if you replaced the "C" or "system" drive, then you are in the same boat as above - however, if you replaced another drive other than the system drive, then your "elicense" program should still have your elicenses recorded in your registry. In that case, when connected to the net just go to the elience program in your control panel and unregister the licenses listed there. You should be able to do that... In either case, if you don't receive a fast response with email, try the phone. I usually call elicense and have had little trouble dealing with them over the phone. Just make sure to have your original order confirmaton number ready.

Thanks, everybody.
Your response and suggestions are helpful. I have my ID number...sent them the info...and will call today if they don't solve this by e-mail. I have two hard drives...I use Drive D as a backup...Drive C is the one that had to be replaced. I think I am going to back up the game on cd's...just to cover all the bases, so to speak. (sorry, pun intended) statfreak: I managed to open the game while on the internet and the firewall kept it from being licensed...I think. I got warnings saying something was trying to connect and to not allow it. Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-04-2005 at 10:24 AM. |

(EDITED AFTER I POSTED THE FOLLOWING)
I called the Viatech folks...1-781-449-7601...and got my "fix" for my OOTPB addiction...in less than 2 minutes...all total. Great service. I have dealt with them twice now and got nothing but great help. Incidentally, the tech lady said it takes about a day for them to respond to e-mail. (EDITED: see the next few posts...service was not as good as I thought...I must have gotten lucky the first two times) Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-04-2005 at 05:05 PM. |

Sorry, they relicensed it quickly...then told me to follow the instructions when I opened up the OOTP6.
There are two ways to do it...online and offline...tried both...neither worked...called them back and told them this...I said I followed the instructions as best I can, but apparently don't have the skills necessary to do it....then I asked them to walk me through the process...was told they didn't do that...at that point I kind of pleaded with the tech and was told someone would call me back and walk me through it. I am patiently waiting now. |

Since I have a new hard drive, I decided to update my Norton Internet Security and get new updates...Suddenly I saw that I could disable my personal firewall...(statfreak, I think told me this was the problem causing me not to be able to relicense online)...I did this...and OUILA (whatever that means...maybe I should have used EUREKA (I think this means something like "I Found it")...and everything worked perfectly...I now have my "fix" and will not go to pieces and fall apart. I HAVE MY GAME BACK.
Why didn't Viatech just tell me to disable my Norton firewall? That would have saved me much time and about 5 long distance calls. In fact for the last two hours they don't answer their phone. I must have gotten very lucky with the first phone call. Thanks, statfreak...and all the other great guys on this forum who take the time to help the ones who need a lot of it. Sorry Eugene... I should have thought of that... I had to do the same for my father's machine (disable Norton Internet Security Firewall).
For some reason, even if you allow the connection when Norton asks you about it, it still fails.
