Smile A small OOTP 7 update including a quiz :)

OK, today I finished coding the engine that takes care of the stats tracking in OOTP 7. Quite a task it was, but well worth it. This thing allows you to check millions of stats per player. No, that is not a typo. And don't worry, the league file isn't THAT big, most of these stats get calculated before they get displayed. Season stats are available by league/level, by team, by split and by double split. That means, for example, you can check the batting stats (including special stats like ISO or RC/27) of a player batting with a count of 1-2 in June against team X. This applies to pitchers as well, so you can see how players hit against a pitcher in Triple-A, on the road with runners on 2nd & 3rd. So far there are 56 different splits available, but I plan to add some more, i.e. obscure ones like split by weekday, or useful ones like pitching on X days rest.

Many will worry now that the game will terribly slow down because of this and the pitch-by-pitch mode. Don't worry In fact, here comes the quiz: What do you think, how long does it take to simulate an entire year with all 28 leagues at full detail level on a 3 ghz PC? (The game does not write boxscores to disk so far, neither is roster AI, trading and player development enabled)

Looking forward to your guesses.

No guess here (it'd be wrong anyway) but, let me just say--wow.

It is currently impossible because there is a bug that crashes every season at the All-Star Break.

Failing that, I'll guess 10 minutes. Long enough to allow for some heavy number crunching but fast enough that we are meant to be shocked.

I'll say 15 minutes but I bet I'm wrong. BTW, this is just the level of stat detail I've been waiting for

Well, my computer won't be able to run it. I know that.

I'll guess 12 minutes

Is it me or is Markus in, "smug-mode"?

I'll say just 6 minutes then right now. Not that it matters much to me as I play out my sides games and if I do sim ahead a decade or two I go and read my book per season, load up CatoBase, rinse, repeat. After letting us know Markus any chance of knowing how long it takes on a 2Ghz system? But like I say - I play my own games, so whatever the result I am truly excited by the level of detail.

Speaking of CatoBase I need to go look in the OOTP7 Suggestions to see if this will follow OOTP into the New Age. Unless someone here knows offhand...?

I'll throw something in the 5-6 minute range. 5 minutes 38 seconds, 242 milliseconds, 836 microseconds, 124 nanoseconds.

Thanks Markus- that's awesome. My guess is around 15-20 minutes, which is amazingly fast, especially given FM isnt that fast.

Side note: You play FM ? Tell me you aren't a Bayern Munich or Schalke fan...

Well I'm a Bayern fan if that helps you out

I bought FM two weeks ago and I have to say it's a very good game but it's so damn slow. If I play 3 leagues it takes ages and I have a 2,2 GhZ with 512 MB which isn't really that bad.

I really hope OOTP 7 is faster because the best game doesn't help if it takes too long to play.
