SI Sportsman of the Year...vote Tillman

let's go people...

http://sisoy.secondthought.com/

Sports Illustrated is conducting it's annual fan poll for Sportsman of the Year. This year there is one athlete who stands out...Pat Tillman
It should be a no-brainer but guys like Phelps and Armstreong are going to make it close.
Click on his picture, then hit the vote button. Log on and vote.
Pat a true American Hero. I know that Armstrong is great but Pat Tillman gave his life for our country.

No offense, Pat Tillman is an american hero. But, how can someone vote someone as "sportsman of the year" if they didn't do anything sports related. Sure, Tillman was a football player years ago, then went into the service. He's been honered with multiple awards because of his sacrifice, but as someone in the Army, we all risk our lives everyday. It just so happened he was a NFL player before hand and turned down money. I personally feel it's time to award such awards as this to someone who dis something to earn then this year in sports.

A true "sportsman" is someone who plays sports for the joy of playing them, not for fame or money. Pat Tillman by this definition, was the ultimate sportsman. Tillman turned down more money from the Rams to play close to home for Phoenix, a team not as good as the Rams. He turned down countless more millions to leave the NFL and fight for what he believed in.

A team as "sportsman" of the year is pretty stupid

I wonder if drinking and driving is a sport. If so, Phelps is clearly the winner.

Well, by that same logic, you could say that naming a person who didn't play anysport whatsoever this year as "sportsman of the year" would be pretty stupid also.

The choices available are kind of strange. How did they come up with the list?

By the way, how many dead in Iraq and Afghanistan this year played sports in high school, college, or pros?

I had never heard of Tillman before today. I agree that it would be a poor choice. The man did what he wanted to do - great. However, I think Bonds and Federer, for example, are better choices for sportsman of the year.

Federer probably had the best season in Tennis since Graf's golden slam in 88- and coming in the Men's division, that's amazing. Good point jean.

Good point, except nobody gives a rats ass about Mens Tennis.

And Long Long Name, are you serious that you have never heard of Pat Tillman until today?

His name rang a bell, but I thought he was a basketball or football coach.
