Importing too OOTP 7 and you.

Will you purchase OOTP 7 if you cannot import from OOTP6?

It would be disastrous for established online leagues. Well, I guess not. They would just stay with v6 I guess.

I'm sure you'll be able to import OOTP 6 somehow but if not I'm still getting it. All the added stuff looks great!

Yeah, I love this game...just hope it doesn't get so complex and buggy that it will ruin my enjoyment.

I hope before it is released it will be refined to the point that it works well. Surely this can be done in a year with the resources and manpower at SI.

I have never been a fan of new added features when old features have not been taken care of. As Ernest and Julio Gallo used to say about their product: "We will sell no wine before its time". I hope Markus will follow their credo.

I have been disappointed in V4, V5 and V6 because the play results are still missing many, many basic everyday plays...and will truly be disappointed if some effort isn't made in this area to greatly improve it...but I will still buy the game because it is so good.

I personally don't really mind if we wont be able to continue our old leagues, with all the new features, I will probably want to start from scratch anyways.

While I would buy it and most likely continue the enjoyment I've been getting from this game for the past 4 versions, I would be disappointed that we wouldn't be able to upgrade our online leagues.

Far as solo leagues go, while attached to a few that I have, I could easily get over it and start from scratch while still using 6 for the online leagues I run.

That said, I hope it doesn't come down to that.

Since I haven't really played any solo leagues since v4, 99.9% of my OOTP enjoyment comes from online leagues - and I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard. That being said, I'd be extremely disappointed if the option to import v6 leagues into v7 was nonexistent.

I would definitely not buy the new version if i can't import my OOTP6 league. That said, i'll be surprised if it's an issue.

I'm actually somewhat worried about this, since the change will be so much greater than any previous version jump. I mean, a total rewrite? It seems like Markus might have to jump through some hoops to make importing a reality. That said, I really hope he can do it!

I haven't even gone to 6 yet--5 fills my needs with the type of league I want to run. By the time I decide to by 7 (or beyond) importing probably won't be a concern for me.

I am just curious, for everyone that voted no, do you actually have other games that offer this feature. I, personally, have never had another game that allowed you to transfer a game or league file from version to version and I have a hard time believing that it would actually be a deciding factor in purchasing the newer version unless you use the game only for on-line leagues. Maybe I am wrong, but it seems to me that "expecting" this feature is a little over demanding.

I start a new career with every PATCH that comes out, so that statistical integrity and records in the new league can be consistent. Importing a new league is one of the last things I care about time being spent on.

I'd buy it regardless, but would I use it? Much less. On-line leagues are the lifeblood of this community, and it would be a shame to see them all fall by the wayside. I'd be ludditing it up with 6 a lot of the time.

That said, if OOTP is goinjg down the more solo-player route, then both might be equally precious to have on the HD!

I would just keep using v6 because I am not into solo sims and if my league cant be integrated into v7, then I will more than likely not buy it. That is one of the main reasons that I love this game so much, being able to load the previous version into the new one.

Well, IMHO you are wrong and I'll explain why I think so. It goes to the heart of what ootp is, a career sim that let's you create a baseball world that can last hundreds of seasons. The game also let's you play out your games one at a time if you choose. As I've stated in many posts on this issue I can get 3 or 4 seasons, in my solo league, completed per version and then move my league into the next and continue. Without the import feature there really is no way for a person that wants to play out all their games to play out 50 or more seasons. Unless of course they buy the newest version when they start and then never buy another version again. Of course the same applies to online leagues that are not going to restart their leagues with new versions. This will of course impact on the total sales of the game. In the current "import system" Markus has a built in base that will buy the game each year.

The game as is does allow importing of rosters from the Lahman DB and I'm assuming it still will with SI unless of course the MLB license prohibits it, who knows? So if we can import from Lahman why, with proper planning can't we export our rosters and other data to a similar DB and then import into the new game? The game creates ratings for players using Lahman so it could do the same with this DB. Of course things won't be perfect but at least we get a pool of players we know to work with and edit, wheather it's the solo player or the online league commish.

For those that like to start over with each version and sim a hundred or more seasons over a summer more power to you, I hope you have fun. For me that just doesn't get it done. Simming seasons and looking at stats to me is boring. I need to see the season unfold in "real time" to become immearsed and appreciate what is happening. If I can't do it buying the new version each year and importing then I'll have to stick with the version I have and leave the new version for someong else to purchase.

I have stated in another post that with the move to SI I do understand the import may be more difficult than usual and maybe just maybe can't be done.
If that's true I will consider buying v7 and starting over though I hate the idea. I will say though that if v7 cannot be imported into v8 then I will be done buying and will stick with v7. It's nothing against Markus or SI it's just that I can't play the game the way it's intended or I want to if I have to restart every year.

Good post, Sweed. I don't play solo like you do (I'm one of them fast simmers) but I am in a number of online leagues that have been going for years (real time) and would hate to see them either reset or miss out on the v7 inovations or go to great tedious lengths to import using CSVs or some such method.

That being said, I have converted 10+ year old databases stored in long forgotten formats here where I work. It can be painstaking, but it can usually be done. So I have confidence that Markus et al will be able to pull this off.

Of course. Between exporting/importing CSVs and 3rd party utilities we'd probably still be able to do it. But it's so much better when the game does it automatically.

I dont buy the new version of every game I play if I cant export. EX: I didn't buy Madden 2005, since Im still active on 2004 and I cant keep my franchise going in 2005.
