Clarett: I got cash, cars at Ohio State

I'm not a huge Clarett fan, but I have to believe he is telling the truth here. Either way, I am so sick of schools breaking all of the rules. You can see why they do--the rewards far outweigh the risks. The NCAA needs to kill programs that are found guilty--take away half of their football scholarships for 2 years, for instance. Only then will we see some reform. Anyway, enough of my soapbox, and on to the link:

I'll be surprised if anything comes of this. The cynics and Ohio State apologists will say it's Clarett trying to cover his rear and look contrite because his potential draft placement is slipping but I don't buy it. If he was doing it for that publicity effect it would have made more sense to do it in March right before the draft when his skills on the field were already evaluated for the most part.

My wife went to the University of Illinois, back in the late '80's. She went while in her mid '30's, and had a different outlook on education than many of the young people in her classes.

In one of her English classes, there was a classmate named Marcus Liberty. Marcus was an All-American basketball player for the Illini, and was a member of the 1989 Final Four Illini team...an awesome team, that had Kendall Gill, and Nick Anderson. Great players.

Anyhoo, this dip**** Liberty NEVER showed up for classes, and the teacher told the class that she, personally, was going to get him academically ineligable.

At the end of the semester, Marcus passes, and she gets a promotion to Department Chair...

How do I know this? My wife came home one day, and asked who the **** was this Marcus Liberty, and why did he have such influence on the university?

Heh heh heh. True. Every word.

Moral of the story? Always make sure you teach the classes with athletes in them.

As somebody who used to lease apartments in the Chapel Hill area, I know for a fact that UNC football players get favors from alumni.

I know at my school, Rutgers University, they do a pretty good job of making sure the students are in class. Most of my classes consist of large #'s of athletes and they haveto sign in before each class, once they pass a small #(5 lectures lets say) they get reamed at by the coach, at another # they are suspended a game, and then after the next # they fail the class automatically. I know this has happened because i've spoken with a number of the athletes and heard their stories.

It's definitely a school by school issue. Some schools are basically lowering the standard to attract better atheletes.

Clarett's a whole new human being. He's not like the rest of us, that's for sure. He's also not like the rest of the crooked ones. His head aint right, and it never was when he was in high school here in Ohio @ Warren G. Harding High.

I don't believe him because I simply think he's a punk. It doesn't matter when he says it to make it "true or false".

I think that it's probably Clarett trying to cover his butt because his draft value is falling big time.

That's why Rutgers often can not field a competitive football team.

Well, if it's any consolation, he was one of the bigger NBA busts in recent history.

Its simple Clarett is just a big loser that screwed up and now he is trying to mess up ohio state.
even if they gave him this stuff you have to be a professional person about it. he took the stuff.
he is just a washed up college player that will never make it to the NFL

Duh, the key issue is he wasn't professional.

I'm absolutely shocked to hear this is going on. Illegal recruiting on college campuses? Say it isn't so.
