What is being done about game crashes.....?

My system specs are 866mz intel processor, 64mg SB video card, SB live sound card with 128mg of RAM, using Windows 98SE. Both my versions of OOTP 5, 6 were working perfectly until I downloaded windows service pack 2 and the latest version of Directx (9.0c) and now the game (Both) crashes at the completion of the game stating I have performed an illegal operation resulting in the loss of the game played. The reason given for the illegal operation is a invalid page fault listing Dmusic.dll as missing....The only way I can get these games to play without crashing is turning off the sound, which is no good for me, since I enjoy the sounds on because it gives me the sense of being there, playing the game with no sound is not an option for me. Any help here would be good, and also....Is Markus looking into any fixes for these problems, which seems to be quite common from what Ive been reading. I also have read many others fixes and have tried them all, and no it didnt help at all.
