Thoughts of a Yankees Fan
Was it the greatest comeback ever, or the greatest choke ever, or both? It really doesn't matter, honestly. Sincere congratulations to the Red Sox for crushing the Cardinals and getting a 86 year old monkey off their back. That sentence just reminded me of my grandparents making whoopee, but I digress. I don't like the Sox, never liked the Sox, and have been a Yankees fan since 1976. I respect the Sox, however, and it's time to recognize the fact that they're the best team in the AL East right now. It's going to be a long offseason for Yankees management, and I expect there will be some significant changes in the roster.
I believe there are less than 110 days until pitchers and catchers report.

That pretty much sums it up. The Yankees really needed to go into rebuilding mode after 2002. But, with Steinbrenner at the helm, we'll never go into rebuilding mode. Which means our minors will always suck, and we'll always have big names who had their best years already on the team.
In any case, it was obvious who wanted this more. The Yankees just looked flat after game 3, and it was pretty pitiful. Their personality sucks, and just doesn't have what it takes to win it all. Gawd, I miss the late 90s teams. Congrads to the Sox. They definately deserved this championship. I hated watching Manny and Pedro celebrate, but Schilling, Ortiz, Foulke, Millar, Mueller, and heck even Roberts deserved it too much to root against the Sox just because of those 2 idiots.

I don't see the problem with this thread (though I'm sure I'll be ridiculed for that comment based on my name alone).
The season is over and the Red Sox won. Now a Yankee fan is asking what New York will do as a result of this "travesty" (in the eyes of some New Yorkers and most importantly, George Steinbrenner). This thread could have easily been about the Chicago Cubs and their plans for the next season while congratulating the Sox for a championship. |

I'll be the first to admit that I can be over-sensitive when it comes to Yankees related issues. If I over-reacted then I apologize, but this thread did rub me the wrong way.

My post was not intended to make the Red Sox victory all about the Yankees. My post was intended to show that yes, even Yankee fans can appreciate the achievement of their long-term rivals and not be bitter about the ALCS loss. It was also intended to show my interest in next season. The profanity in your quip emphasized your disdain for fans of the Yankees. That is what really surprised me.

Let's be fair, Dagrims' congratulations were not complete. A "sincere" congratulations to the Red Sox often does not also include the sentence "I don't like the Sox, I have never liked the Sox."
I am not a Yankees fan but I live in Yankee area. I'm not speaking for draven, but he has it even worse, living in north Jersey as he does and being a Sox fan. No doubt he has had to endure a bevy of "**** the Red Sox" type comments the last couple weeks from co-workers and even people he stands in line with at the supermarket. I know I've heard them. Many Yankee fans are exceptionally rude about the Red Sox in this area. That is undeniable. And a lot of Yankees fans are walking around today saying, "Yawn, one world championship in the last 86 years, call me again when you win 20 more." I think it's easy to see that is a dagger in the heart of fans who are genuinely floored by what they have just experienced. It's like saying to an 8-year old who gets his first Little League hit, "Yeah, nice kid, let me know if you ever manage to jack one over a 350-foot fence." You think that kid wouldn't feel hurt? I hope y'all can patch up your differences. I'm not saying draven was justified - but I am saying it's not hard to see why he'd be hurt by your comments. |

I never knew draven lived in New Jersey.
In all honesty, that puts a lot into perspective. I now feel like I can understand these and past comments a bit more. Yankee fans can be a**holes. I do feel sorry for the pain you go through every day. |

Sixto, DRaven, I can see the point of view from which you're coming, and understand why my post was interpreted differently from how I meant it. Seriously, causing controversy or saying things to make others feel bad is not my goal in posting here. Let me edit my post in spirit to simply state "good job Red Sox" and pretend it was a reply buried in some other thread.

Actually, I did watch most of the Series. All four games (with the exception of the middle innings of game 1) reminded me very much of games 5-7 of the ALCS, in that it looked as if just one team were trying to win the game, and the other team was just mailing in its performance.

I think you're all explaining too much and not understanding anything.

As a neutral party, I'll say that I didn't think that the initial post was all that bad. After all, he did mention congratulations to the Sox even.
