What happened to all the hype for the 'extra' stuff? The things that he asked us that could help improve the game. I ain't playing this just to get the closer role. WHOOPDEE FREAKIN DOO! Not even going to D/L the patch. Thanks, but no thanks.

I agree with mouboy, except about the wiping my butt part. We waited a long time for this patch, Markus. I'm not ungrateful, but I am disappointed. We waited a long time while you were working on the 6.03 patch. OK, fine. ITP was an afterthought and OOTP is the franchise. But to give us this after so long implies you don't think the game was worth the time spent on the 6.03 patch. A week? Is that really enough?
These three relatively minor adjustments are not what I was expecting. I think we all expected not one but several major feature adjustments, introductions, and an overall leap forward in game dynamics. If this OOTP:ITP ratio is the way it's going to be you've got trouble in River City. I don't want to wait another 9 months (or whatever) for another patch. I wanted to see ITP2, but I think ITP 1.03 is aptly named because you're about 3% of the way there. |

Guys, this is a patch, not an update. It is meant to fix reported problems, and not to add massive features. I have tons of ideas for ITP, but I did not have time to implement them yet.

For those of you waiting for the "major update": Give up. It's never going to happen. This game was released to puff up the perceived value of the company, hype OOTP 7, and scratch up some beer money. As for being "the first sports role-playing game," please don't make me laugh until I cough up a lung and die. If you can find it, check out Cricket Career Manager, shareware circa 1997, by a company I beleive was called Two British Guys in a Basement. Featuring among other things, movement up and down from local to national teams, purchasing better equipment to increase ratings, and evev a "pub" where you could talk to your manager, etc. You will note two dead giveaways that nobody at the company cares about this game. One, it was until recently the only OOTPD game with no demo available. From a company that has always been a shareware company, that shows no confidence in the product.(Actually, I'll have to go check out the new demo. I bet it only includes character creation. That would be smart, because once you've made up your character, you're pretty much finished playing.) Two, and more glaringly, the final, commercial version shipped without a manual! And Markus, on this very forum, announced that he forgot to write one. YOU FORGOT?!? Hey Markus, my credit card isn't going to pay you cause I'm over my limit. Sorry, I forgot. Seriously, do I have to point out what a massive oversight this is, especially in a simulation game? I bought ITP because I loved the concept and Title Bout had turned into the best 35.00 I spent on a game this year. ITP itself is turning out to be the worst 20.00 I've spent on anything since I kicked the White Girl. Bottom line: ITP was DOA, and perennial champ EA Sports has a serious challenger this year in the (apparently) coveted Worst Product Support category. For What it's Worth The Fat Man |

I have to disagree, for 20 dollars I spent a lot of time playing this game. I played well over a month. Last weekend I went out for 5 hours and spent 100 dollars. So 20 bucks for a month's worth of entertainment is a good value. This game had everything it said it was going to have. I am sure Markus will get an update or ITP2 out soon enough, but why does he even try if he is going to get blasted by the very people that had enjoyment from the game. If it is 20 dollars you didn't like giving up why didn't you ask for your money back right away? If you got more than 2 hours worth of entertainment it was worth it, because to buy a DVD you need to shell out 20 bucks. So the fact that I was able to play it for a month is enough for me to say it was worth the price.

Again, this thread has been repeated ad infinitum.... Let me say it just one more time. No one is disagreeing with you Clutch. I am the first one to say its an ok product, I had some fun with it. But the issue I think people have is that more features/more playability etc etc has been dangled in front of people for a long time. I would never have thought to keep looking for more if it hadn't been offered to players. So, yes, your post is right on the money, had Markus not offered it in the first place. But since he asked for people to send suggestions as to what they wanted then said a major update will come after 6.10, then I think people have a right to feel let down. ![]() See here for thread 9/22 Once the OOTP 6 update is done, I'll shift my focus to the ITP patch. It'll fix the reported bugs and include a couple of new feaures. Last edited by LeiterFanatic; 10-26-2004 at 10:16 AM. |

Man oh man... talk about sour pusses.... I really am enjoying ITP... patches or not. You don't HAVE to buy the game... Sure, it might not be what you want it to be, but when you buy an economy car you can't expect to find a porsche in your driveway tomorrow. I knew what I was getting into with ITP, and to date it has pretty much lived up to what I thought it would be. A nice diversion from OOTP - but nothing too indepth. I've never seen ITP as a major item from OOTPD - I have always seen it more as a "pet project" thing, that might, maybe one day grow into a real product.
But seriously, if Markus is going to get slagged left an right in regard ITP, then I'd suggest that you just abandon ITP Markus... because you take enough crap from people over OOTP to have to deal with more garbage over ITP... You try to do something good, and people dump all over you. Seriously... take a pill people.... Besides... I'd much MUCH prefer Markus work on OOTP 6 patches and on OOTP 7 than on ITP anyway...

For those of you who keep apologizing/defending Markus, et al:
ITP was never advertised as a "pet project" or a "science experiment" or "an add-on to OOTP" or "ahhh...just somethin' we thought we'd throw out there to make some extra gas money," or any of those other cop-out descriptions with which you label it in order to rationalize the disappointing support shown by the company. It was advertised as a game in itself, as the "first role-playing sports game," in fact, and that's why I bought it. And, by the way, just because it "only" cost 20 bucks doesn't give the company carte blanche to make omissions as egregious as forgetting a damn manual. I know at some point I (and others) have asked what in the world good it does to "pitch inside" vs. "pitch outside," or if a pitcher can actually gain ability by picking just the right workout, etc....things like that...and nobody seems to know the answer, or if they do, care to give it, or, what one might expect if a game's programmers just up and "forgot" a manual, they know that there is no answer, that these features touted do nothing at all, but just don't care. Sorry, but I just can't shake the sense of phone-it-in cynicism that, to me, hangs over ITP. I'd say the game is pretty good, yes, and wouldn't be upset if I hadn't been offered anything above and beyond its true value. |

For a $20 game, ITP was a good game. And considering unless a game has a game-breaking problem, a fix isn't usually released until next years version. Markus has done a great job supporting his products, and it seems like everyone is just too used to his high-product support and expect way too much from him |

I am by no means upset with the product.
In July, I repeat, July he said he was going to start fixing up things and put out a patch. The patch he put out yesterday looks like it probably took about three and a half minutes to fix up(Markus is pretty good at coding, so I was lenient). Three and a half minutes! Three and a half months ago he said he'd start doing something 'fixing'. That's very displeasing to say the least. Just more proof that this game is being paid attention to about .00004% of the time compared to everything else. |
