*Bad file name* (Catobase related)

I did everything correct as far as setting up Catobase. However near the end of "Importing Stats" of Catobase I got a *Bad File Name*. This was for the Photos. So I noticed that Cato only transfered only an "X" amount of photos but not ALL of the ones that were used in the game.

What is this *Bad File Name* error and how can I fix it?

Thanks.

Is there something named wrong in the "photos" file? Could it be something in my league?

This is far from helpful and I'm no expert in this matter because I don't use photo's in cato.

I would be surprised if anything is "screwed" up. When you got the error did Cato just continue along, so now it looks complete but with missing photos? Or did it just stop everything when you got the error?

My guess is that you do indeed have a photo with a weird name. I would go through your photos looking closesly at the filename and see if you can see something out of the ordinary. Also, do you know which photo was the last photo copied over? I would bet they they were copied in some order. You might be able to find the exact file that cause the problem and fix it. If it looks ok, you could just remove that photo, try again and see what happens.

OK, thanks for the help.

Yes, Cato runs just fine after that "bad name file" error". I get everything and Cato is complete but without *MOST* photos. I'll do what you said and come back with what I found just in case this happens to someone else.

Thanks again.

Well, I found that a few (about 25 player pics) were not sized correctly. I resized them to 90x135 but I still get thr error. Anyone else have ANY idea?

Maybe I didnt install everything I needed to. All I installed was 5.40 > 6.00 > 6.14 and in that format.

I've worked on this all night and I still have not found the cause of the problem. It seems Im the only one that has had this issue. I did a search and I have seen nothing like what I am going through right now.

Well, I give up. I guess I wont be using photos in Catbase.

I had about 5900 player photos in the PHOTOS folder (in the .lg folder). I thought maybe....just maybe that this was causing the problem and that there were just too many player pics but nope....not the case.

Well, I tested this with another league (Test.lg). I used the SAME photos and Catobase ran just fine without any "bad file name or number" errors. It must be in my serious lg somewhere. The only mods I used were OriginMaker and stickware. I wonder if one of these is messing it up.

I thought you gave up three posts ago.

I remember reading that, once upon a time, long path names sometimes gave Catobase trouble, so if your export folders are fairly deep into your directory structure, you could try moving them out towards the root.

Regarding your other thread, I doubt that OriginMaker has anything to do with this. Even if it does, deleting the associated files won't fix any "damage" done to your data. To do that, you'd have to Export General Info and then change everybody's origin back to something harmless, like "USA".

Just to grasp at one last straw, do any of your players have accent marks in their names? (I don't even know if that's possible in OOTP... just a thought... )

LOL, thanks for replying.

I "tried" to give up but I want to use Cato so bad with photos. Its funny because I ran a test league and it worked fine but it wont work with my serious lg. That is why I thought that other utility would have done something.

Thanks for keeping me company though.

Problem solved thanks to you jmm8356. It was a name (like you pointed out to ne) of one of my players in my league. He had a "box" like shape behind his last name. Since I use the name file that came in the OOTP generator I bet the bad file name came from one of those .dat files.

Thank you once again. I had to go through EVERY player in my league and search their player cards for errors and it was just one name that screwed it all up.

I also sent you a PM jmm8356.
