1st Inning Woes
In the solo league I am playing (my first season), I sim pretty much everything except I play out all games pitched by the ace of my staff. That way I always look at everything on the team, waiver wire, etc,. every 5 days or so, can adjust lineups, etc.
I would have to dig out the stats to prove it, but from observation of 30+ games started, this guy struggles to get out of the first inning EVERY GAME. Puts me in a 1-4 run hole almost every game. Mind you, after that he is nails. He finished the year with 18 wins and a ~3.50 ERA. So I am not complaining about the simulation. I am wondering, however, (and assuming my observed experience would be borne out by stats if I chose to dig them out) if there is some sort of rating (hidden or otherwise) that controls whether a player starts slowly in a game. Or was this just a wild string of luck amounting to an improbable possibility occuring? |

I'm pretty sure that first inning tend to have a lot of scoring in real life and I've noticed a propensity for it in the game as well, though not specific to pitchers.

Yeah....some pitchers IRL seem to have a hard time earlier and get stronger as the game progressive. Being a long-time Braves fan...Tom Glavine was are guy that was like that.
