Red face Injuries

Pitcher injuries are out of control...I was in the middle of a pennant race at the start of August my #2 goes down for a month, and maybe a week later my #3 goes down for a few weeks, my team FELL apart. Now this is just a one time example, early in the season 40% of my rotation spent time on the DL...and previous years the same thing. SOOOO this new year i just started, not even a week into the season yet another long injury to my pitching staff, they are all normal in injury rating, fairly young...it doesnt matter who my pitchers are, its insane. The injury level is on low. It was like this in the last version, what gives?

Once they suffer one serious injury of a few weeks or longer they will instantly become "injury prone" and probably lose some of their ability. You might as well ship them out once they return from the first one. If you don't they will be on the DL every year when you need them the most... Murphy's Law of OOTP4.

DODGER FAN-
I think i had the same thing happen to me... are you useing 4 man rotations? Do you use the patch...? I don;t...

Injury prone, eh?
That may have been my problem... but then it seems that all the pitchers in the game would eventually become injury prone, since most should suffer an injury at sometime over their careers unless they are all Cal Ripken's descendants.....

For now, I guess I'll turn injuries off... it seems like they were ok when I was useing a 5 man rotation,,,,,

Situations like the one you're facing are what make this the best baseball game on the market.

The problem is not that complicated. I think it is all about the 4 man rotation wearing down your starters. I have always used a 5 man rotation and I have never had problems that were extremely serious. When one of my guys goes down I go to a 4 man rotation with a part time 5th starter until my guy comes back.

Also, it may take a little longer than a few weeks before lasting effects occur, but they will occur if a player is injured seriously enough or too often. Just be careful with them that's all.

My one and only complaint with the game is the amount of pitcher injuries. I have injuries on very low, and position players rarely get hurt for more than a day or two. However, it seems like every week there's some pitcher around the league (usually a star) that gets injured for 6 weeks. And these are people like Glavine, Petitte, Maddux, and Johnson who hardly ever get hurt.

It's just aggravating seeing the computer with a good team get their season wiped out, and sometimes the careers of guys - Piniero, Chen, and O. Perez have all had their careers ended in two seasons of my current career.

Other than losing pitchers to injuries often when the setting is on very low, this game rocks.

Again, I must say I bet you use a four man rotation. There is not many MLB teams who use a full time four man rotation and there is a reason for that. I don't understand why everyone tries to get away with it when playing OOTP4.

I use a 5 man rotation, always have.

the quote about things like this making it the best baseball game out there, i dont find that to be accurate, i mean its not just this time around, it happens all the time, not this season, not this sim, but it has happened witht the other OOTP games i have had. oh well...

I did a study on the old, old board (unfortunately its lost now) that showed that OOTP was actually accurately, or even under reflecting the number of injuries towards pitchers and in the correct proportion.

Notice tons of pitchers. And just from looking at it I notice its far from complete. (Notice Maddux isn't listed, neither are Ankiel or Woody Williams)

Here's another look at the current injuries (S-Starter; R-Reliver)
<a href="http://fantasyleagues.mlb.com/rotoworld_mlb/display1.asp?sport=MLB&page=injuries" target="_blank">http://fantasyleagues.mlb.com/rotoworld_mlb/display1.asp?sport=MLB&page=injuries</a>

I'd say the injury frequency is still alright, albeit a bit frustrating at times. (I am the king of pitcher injuries in my online leagues (almost all my starters each year in Boys of Summer, and my Ace twice in OOL)

yeah, it must be the 4 man... problem is, that for much of baseball's history 4 man rotations were the norm. The best thing about OOTP4, IMO, is playing around with oldtimers like CY Young and Christy Mathewson... but if they never have a shot at winning 30 games because the game doesn't recognize that DeadBall era pitchers regualarly pitched 300 to 400 IP a season without regular catastrophic injuries... that is a problem with the game. Not a huge one, but a problem.
