Cool The Ultimate Ballpark Collection - SET 1

The file below (also on BigCityBaseball.com) contains all 47 Major League ballparks from 1971 to 2001 preformatted for OOTP4 (640x480). I've collected the best pictures (or paintings) available and formatted each of them into an attractive oval viewpoint complete with the ballpark's name, years of service, and team names. In a couple of cases, these pictures are overhead views where "behind-the-plate" pictures were not available.

Set 2 will follow in the near future adding additional ballparks from 1931 - 1970, and Set 3 will follow after that adding ballparks from 1901 - 1930.

Enjoy !!

They look great, Henry. Thanks! I've recently started a 1966 league and was hurting for a few of the stadiums. Most of them are covered in your pack.

Henry, downloaded the file last night, they look great. One question though, how do you get the clear markers for the positions in the field?

Not trying to be rude, but why are all the stadiums in .jpg if the game requires .bmp?

Cool

Good Question
JPGs are about 1/10th the size of BMPs... therefore more storage space and 10 times as long to download. For those on modems, it would hardly be worth the download time.

The definitive answer on that should come from Henry, but I suspect the main reason for jpeg is that they are smaller files than bmp and therefore you save bandwidth, download times etc. Someone on the Board had an URL to software called HamWare that will batch change jpegs to bmps. I installed it and it works real slick, so getting the ballparks as jpegs is not an issue.

Oh yeah, it's amazing how easy it is to forget that there are still poor suckers on dial-up once you get DSL/Cable Modem.

I just resaved them one by one with Paint. Only wasted 10 mins of my life...

Just got done assigning them all in League Setup. First off, they look great - big upgrade over the default field! Couple things I noticed:

1) _ballparkarlington.bmp is too long of a filename. The game would not properly display this field unless I shortened the name of the file.
2) Where are Miller Park and PNC Park? They opened in 2001...

Great job Henry!

When I load the stadiums into the game they show up fine except that in the lower right and left hand corners the stadium name and team years show up with white spots around them. When I look at the file with a file viewer the spots disappear. I assume this has something to do with the way the game loads the files? I know this is an insignificant problem because I love the look of the stadiums.

That sounds like the transparency issue - you may have converted the original ballpark JPG images to 256-color BMP pictures, or even 16 color BMP pictures with MSPaint. This could result in some of the black colors in the ballpark images converting to the "0,0,0" color hue that the game will display as transparent. I suspect if you saved the original JPG ballpark images as 24-bit BMP ("bitmap") images through MSPaint that the problem would be fixed.
