Post Sad day in the on-line league world

XBL closed it's doors.

http://www.sportplanet.com/sbb/xbl/

Joe W ran, by far, the best league that ever existed. His creative mind was the basis for a lot of the rules, and web page formats that you see around today. Joe took on-line leagues to a new level.

Even though I was never part of his league, he helped me fill gaps in my leagues with his great ideas. For that, I just wanted to say thank you! I hope you decide to open your doors again sometime, and if I can ever help, please contact me!

Joe

I agree with everything said. I was one of the original members and was able to see all of the changes as they happened. I credit Joe Winarske for giving me the ambition to start my own league. If there was an online league Hall of Fame, the XBL would certainly be part of it.

Yeah, thanks Joe. I think many online leagues owe you a debt for raising the OOTP league quality bar. Oh, also for allowing so many leagues to copy/paste your rules or borrow other page code from the XBL .

It's only sad if you were in the league.

Now it leaves a vacancy at the top for a new dog to step up and be #1...

My vote goes to the CDL A league with a strong history (started in 69, currently in 76), a solid commish, and a great owner base.

Of course, the OOL will probably take that distinction - as it's the 'official' league of OOTP, but the fact is, ANY league with a good commish and solid owners who all participate deserves recognition as a great league.

Um, somehow I missed this league. Although I am in "only" three leagues, I do travel around and regularly check up on the goings on of about 10 other veru high-thought of online leagues. Somehow I never bookmarked or even noticed this one. Guess I'll never know what was so spectacular about it!

Maelstrom's got potential, and CBL is great, OOL should be good but the website sucks. Overall, I gotta say the FOBL is the best.

I have to agree with Mark on this. The site is not bad and there is no need to say that about it.

There are good leagues. I think we all know most of them. I think the CDBL is great ran by Michael Steddick. I know the FOBL is a great league. The Hickory Baseball League is good and I think that is ran by someone who was in the XBL. The CBL is good too, Computer Baseball League. I cant remember what it is exactly but it was in the prove your league is the best thread.

Anyway I like the NBSL because it was the first league I joined adn we NOW have a very good owner base. We started last year with OOTP3 and are now going to our 2005 season. We also have a website on the OOTP leagues site. We only had to oust 2 owners this year as well. So if any of you guys are interested stop by and sign up. See how this turned into an advertisiment?

Anyway I was in coorespondence with Joe and I was going to join the XBL when he decided to close the doors, so yes it was sad for me too.

Anyone interested in the NBSL the link is at the bottom.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.
