Baseball Commonality Trivia
You may remember these trivia challenges I used to post. They were kind of fun so I thought I'd make some more. Feel free to add your own if you like.
I wil present three "Who am I?" style trivia questions. The three players will have something that is either unique or unusual that ties them together. If you know just one or two answers, you can post them and others can help. I am a bit rusty so I hope it is not too easy... 1. My baseball career lasted parts of six seasons. I made my MLB debut as a teenager and later in my career, I hit a personal best of 10 home runs with a first year expansion team. I was once traded in a package deal for a very famous hold-out. At age 20, I made my way into a rather well-known Casey Stengel quote. After my active player career ended, I went on two new careers. I was a minor league coach and worked as an actor. I've been in movies staring the likes of John Cusack, Gwyneth Paltrow, John Travolta, Kevin Costner, Tom Selleck, and Gene Hackman. Who am I? 2. I was "discovered" in the Texas League. I had a very long and distinguished career. I won a batting title and I led the league in home runs once. There was one other statistic I led the league in an amazing 8 times, something no one else has been able to better although a Cardinal did tie me. I was with my first club nearly a decade before being traded over a salary dispute after we had won the World Series. Years later, my second club won its first World Series, giving me my third ring. Even though my hitting numbers speak for themselves, I was certainly not a one dimensional player. Who am I? 3. I was a colorful player for several American League teams. I finished in the league's top ten in homers 3 times in my 9 year career. I was traded from my first team, then soon reacquired by my first team, and then later released. Knowing the owner, this is not surprising and I said as much myself. After my release and upon signing with a new team as a free agent in mid-season, I hit horribly but I ended up making the All-Star team the next season and finished in the MVP voting's top 10. I later left the game for another sport but found a new career in baseball in the front office. Who am I? Last, what is the commonality?

It's hard to disguise a player as great as Speaker without giving it away. Speaker led the league in doubles 8 times. Only Stan Musial was able to duplicate this feat. Speaker played with Houston in the Texas League before being signed by the Red Sox.

Great job Spielman. There are a few people around here who I know will always put these together and Spielman is one of them.

OK, Spielman but only if you promise not to answer it the first 5 minutes it is up
Give someone else a chance!1. I played 18 seasons in the majors with a number of teams in both leagues, though primarily in the American League. I had three separate tours of duty with one club, a team that played not too far from my hometown. Despite having never finished in the top 10 in homers, batting average, RBI, or runs scored, one year I did finish in the top 10 in the MVP voting. The second time I was traded, I went to a team that had been in the World Series each of the previous three years. We missed my first year with that club but we soon made it back where I hit under .200 with 1 homer in a Series loss. I once held a consecutive game errorless steak at my primary position. It ended, coincidently, the same day as another player’s record errorless streak ended at another position! Who am I? 2. I was a pitcher for over a decade, playing in both leagues while on the west coast. I was an All-Star twice and won 20 games in each of those two seasons. I was once traded along with a Hall of Fame player and, in another deal, traded for a player many feel should be in the Hall. I once combined with another pitcher on my team to establish a teammate pitching record. The record lasted nearly 30 years before being broken. Interestingly enough, I was credited the very first official occurrence of one particular official stat. Who am I? 3. I played my first MLB game at age 20. I made one appearance and did not show back up in the big leagues until 3 years later where I again played in just one game! The next season I stuck for good and played 15 seasons. I played in over 100 games in just four of those years and hit double figures in homers just once. The third time I was traded, I was packaged along with another player. He went on to win three World Series rings with our new team but I was traded again before that postseason run for a guy who ended up with less than 300 career at bats. I played for 8 teams. One of my younger brothers played for the Cardinals and Expos, two teams I never played with. Who am I? What particular commonality do the three of us share?
