Beta Baseball, season 7 - expansion!

Here at Beta Baseball, we have decided to expand from 8 to 12 teams. We need members to fill the expansion team slots, as well as two persons to fill the vacant spot on the "old" teams.

Expansion teams are the Proletarian Knot Sfeer and the Pines Verts in the Axelite League as well as the Flaming Cliffs Turtles and Ingleville Magistrates in the Bordurian League.

Existant teams looking for a new owner are the Skojpp Bombers, a young team with a tremendous pitching staff and a few great young hitters, and their cross-town rivals, the New Skojpp Czars, a rebuilding team with a lot of available money for signing free agents.

It does not seem we are getting many responses, and maybe that has something to do with the fact that there is no league description posted here. So, I am going to post for Tim some facts.

1. Basics

Beta Baseball uses the Out of the Park 6 program as its simulation engine. It has a fictional player pool, with a rating system using the ‘Talent Only’ setting, which means that actual hitting and pitching ratings are hidden.

There are two leagues, the Axelite League and the Bordurian League. Neither league uses a Designated Hitter.

One team from each league advances to the playoffs, where they play a best-of-9 playoff series to determine the league champion.

The league simulated three years prior to its initial draft in 2005, and those statistical records are still available for players who were in the league at that time.

Owners must submit lineups before 4PM on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, the days of the sims, using the OOTP6 export function.

The commissioner will run two sims per game month. If a month starts on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, the sim will contain the rest of that week, and then two more after it, totaling no more than 18 days. If not, then the sim will contain the end of that week, and another week, totaling no less than 13 days.


2. Franchises and Members


Beta Baseball has decided to suspend the old three-man management system indefinitely, starting in 2011. Each team now has an owner, whose responsibility it is to submit lineups and minor league adjustments every sim, and to make free agent signings and trades whenever needed.

Teams still cannot move nor build or edit a stadium. That will hopefully change soon, however.

Naturally, nobody can own more than one team. If you’re caught, you will be removed from the league.


3. Finances


Beta Baseball has no salary cap.

Teams are not allowed to be in debt for more than one season. If you are, you will be forced to reduce your payroll before the third season, or risk league sanctions.




4. Transactions


Trades must be confirmed on the message board, by both teams. The trade deadline is July 31st. Any trade made between then and the end of the season must have all involved players that are on the 40-man roster pass through waivers before the trade can be complete, and any player acquired after August 31st cannot participate in the postseason.

In the offseason free agent period, free agency will use a bidding war format. That means that once you place a bid on a player, any other team has 48 hours to outbid the previous offer. A bid must increase the salary by at least 10% or else it will not be considered at all. After 48 hours, the player becomes the propriety of the team that has the best bid. However, the team must be able to afford the contract of the player it just signed at the end of the free agency period or else it will have to pay a fine to the league in addition to not getting the said player.

A player has the right to refuse an offer it he deems it too low. If such is the case, the team with the highest offer has the rights to the player for a 48 hour period to try to negotiate an agreement. After that, the player goes back in the FA pool.

During the season, all free agent signings go in the ‘Completed Trades’ forum.

Players are posted for waivers using OOTP6's waivers engine. Players will be on waivers for 19 days in-game, which means that they will be available for claim before the sim immediately following the one in which they were put onto the wire. Claims will be made on the Beta message board. If your team successfully claims a player, and you want him to be in your lineup as soon as the claim is processed, contact the commissioner.


5. Incentives


Anyone who manages to bring a new owner to the league will get 250k, flat fee (although they must specify it in their application form, or you must notice me that said person will join the league prior to that person sending in the application form). In order for the owner to get that money, the member he brings to the league must stay for at least one complete season. The money will be added to his team's total at the start of the year follwing the new member's first complete year.

Any league member who submits a news story will be eligible for a financial reward from the league. The reward for an average article will be around $100,000, but it can be lower or higher depending on the quality (and length) of the said article. Again, the money will be distributed at the start of the following season.
