Trying a new set idea
I really liked the crest type logos that were in another thread. Logos that are simple, easy to read, all of the same style and that look good in the game. So incorporating some the idea of the circular logos that I did awhile go with the crest type, Im working on a new set. Have just done two so far, here is how they look in the game using my "old time" skin that i use in the NML. This is 70% of the in game screen shot so there is some distortion.

Here is another tweak based on discussion in another thread concerning having the team name or city on the logo but in such a way as to not detract from the logo.

These latest are very nice... though the correct spelling is Phoenix.
![]() I'm a big believer in KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and "less is more", and these fit the bill perfectly. (These are the same reasons I like the default logos... they're simple and distinctive, even when shrunk down.)

Thanks for the correct spelling, will change that one. I agree, the logos should be simple, yet be stiking in the game. Any ideas for team names and graphics for this set, anyone? So far Im using simple clip art that I have modified and enhanced, and would like to stay with the simple art for these. I may add more graphic art from the circle logo set that I did last year.
Here is another one, need to come up with a name.

Both Lions are very good IMO...easy to read and not cluttered.
You did a great Caracas Lions for me...one of my alltime favorite logos...it seems to have an embossed or embroidered look to it...see it below. The first Phoenix is hard for me to read...it looked cluttered...the second one is better...the name doesn't intrude on the bird figure as much as the first one does. The fleur-de-lis is excellent. If you want suggestions for team names: I suggest the Clovis Monarchs...with a little story to go with it. Or maybe the Clovis Legends. The Clovis Legend I will mention an amusing legend, according to which Clovis, on his way to fight the king of Aquitania Alaric, and defeat him at Vouille near Poitiers (in 507), was searching in vain for a ford to cross a river, when a doe, frightened by the soldiers, jumped across the river along a ford that it only knew. The whole army then followed. On the banks, wild yellow irises grew in abundance: Clovis came off his horse, picked one and put it on his helmet as a symbol of his future victory. Thereafter did the kings of France use the fleur de lis as their emblem. The story is of course fanciful, but a nice one (somewhat reminiscent of the manner in which Attila found his way to Europe) Richardton Lions (for Richard the 3rd...the Lion-hearted). Paradise Phoenix or Paradise Firebirds.
The Phoenix Bird by Hans Christian Andersen (1850) In the Garden of Paradise, beneath the Tree of Knowledge, bloomed a rose bush. Here, in the first rose, a bird was born. His flight was like the flashing of light, his plumage was beauteous, and his song ravishing. But when Eve plucked the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, when she and Adam were driven from Paradise, there fell from the flaming sword of the cherub a spark into the nest of the bird, which blazed up forthwith. The bird perished in the flames; but from the red egg in the nest there fluttered aloft a new one—the one solitary Phoenix bird. The fable tells that he dwells in Arabia, and that every hundred years, he burns himself to death in his nest; but each time a new Phoenix, the only one in the world, rises up from the red egg. Just a thought...don't use the same gold border for all of the logos...for variety sake.
But then again, you may want a consistency in the whole series...so you use the same golden border. This is fine, too...as the gold border blends with all colors. Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-09-2004 at 08:12 PM. |

Here are two more, tried a different color border, but may decide to keep the complete set uniform. Eugene I remember doing the Lions logo for you and using texture to get that look, thanks for posting that I dont think I saved it anywhere.

The more I see, the more I think you are right...the gold border as a standard looks fine.
Nice orange/yellow color on the Ravens lettering. It really shows up well on the black raven. Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-10-2004 at 01:10 AM. |

The skin can be downloaded from this page http://www.nmleague.com/oldtimeskin.htm
That is the basic skin with the default background you will see on the examples on that page. There are also a few other default background files incluced, you just have to rename the files to default to use. You will want to change the "logosmall" file to fit your league.
