Does AI ever change Primary Position?

I've read through a number of forums and
am still unsure as to whether the AI
will change the primary position of players ---
some sya that it doesn't ---
others say they saw it happen.
Would someone clear this up for me --
who knows "for sure"?

I noticed that when I clicked on a player link that
if I'm not careful a double click may change the
position of the player after the player card window opens
--- I have Homer Bush who was origionally at 2B is
now a DH --- I thought the AI may have done it,
but now I suspect I acidentally did it when I opened his
General Information window --- there is no 'Save Changes?"
alert for Primary Position changes --- so it's really easy to
accidentally do it.

Often, and usually in ways that aren't too bright.

It will. Most often in the minors but the AI will occasionally try to do it on the major league level. Sneaky AI...

Yep, and by the way - NEVER list a guy's primary position as DH if you're interested in trading him. I'm not one for switching around positions to fool with the star system, but that's the one exception I make.

The AI can be dumb, but it also can be very sneaky, and it will change a position now and then.

What I've seen it do more often than change the primary position is leave it and just play the guy at a different position, which I dislike more.

Why? It is a guys primary position, not Position guy is going to play today?

What I mean is that it will put a guy in the everyday lineup at 3B and leave his primary position as 1B.

Yep. In fact, what I find that it does all the time is take a guy who's, say, a mediocre CF but great 2B and change him to a CF as his primary position, but still play him at 2B.

This works fine for that team, but the AI isn't so savvy about switching it back. So I'll often see that same guy on some team's bench 3-4 years later, trying to break into the CF depth chart.

I found that Homer Bush's primary position was switched form 2B to DH (I have mixed feelings about DHs in this game anyway) ---
but the AI has him as a defensive replacement at 2B for the starter ---
I suppose the AI could "decide" to change him back to primary 2B or some other position when it "felt" it was appropriate .... how's that for personifying an artificially intelligent virtual manager!

The AI is horrendus in its decisions

Take an All Star 5 star C...getting up there in age...and a young guy is a 4 star playing behind him.

Well, the AI will trade one then say...put the older C at 1B or COF UNLESS they have ratings for that position.

I don't understand why it won't try an find a position if its weak in one area and has two great players at another.
