Roethlisberger
I enjoyed watching him play yesterday. He looks like a charismatic QB a la Favre to me. Not saying he's even 1/10 the QB Favre is, just that he showed the same sort of presence. And Favre, if you remember, basically brought back the pump fake when he started his career, and it seemed like Roethlisberger pump faked every pass.
Unfortunately for Steelers fans it looks like Cowher doesn't quite know what he has - or isn't interested - in Duce Staley. Staley should be catching more than one pass out of the backfield. |

I think that was the point when the Steelers coaches realized that they hadn't been giving the ball to Duce the whole game. So they decide to do it in the fourth quarter when they're down by 16. Why they didn't give him more carries in the first half, I'll never know.
Though, back on topic, I think Roethlisberger looked pretty good, though I think the two interceptions pretty much prove that he hasn't quite learned the offensive system well enough quite yet. He probably has two or three weeks to learn it while on the job in order to keep Maddox on the bench when he's healthy again.

Pal of mine is a Miami of Ohio grad so I ended up watching some of the games last year and he looked pretty much the real deal. I would have liked to see him again at Miami this year, mind.

The kid has a cannon for an arm but knows when some touch is requirred. After he settled down a little bit, I think he looked pretty good. Of course he was throwing againsta pretty soft zone most of the 4th quarter.
I also don't think the 2nd INT was his fault. I think the reciever zigged when he was supposed to zag. We will see today how long Big Ben gets to audition for next year. Maddox's arm was flopping like a rag doll when they showed that replay in slo-mo. Looked pretty bad to me... |

I would like this kid to do well. The few interviews I have heard with him, he sounded pretty squared away...not the least bit arrogant.

I hate all of the Marino comparisons, but after 4 starts this kid looks pretty darn good.
A 125 QB rating in your 4th professional game ain't too shabby. |

Roethisberger is pretty good, but he's not proven he could wind up in the pro bowl this year and never throw for more than 100 yards next year.Rookies are so unpredictable.

Of those in my lifetime: 1) Elway 2) Favre 3) Montana 4) Marino 5) Brady Peyton would already be on that list if he could just learn how to win the big game. Warner if he had been good for longer than three seasons (although he does look pretty good this year, if not what he was in the StL glory days). Brady is on there because the guy just knows how to win, period, even if his numbers aren't HOF material yet. Sorry to derail the thread. I just like to mention Elway as being #1 anytime the opportunity shows itself.

I said it back in April. Big Ben would be the best of the 2004 draft quaterbacks. I also said Leftwich would be the best from last year.

I think Rothy is the real deal, however playing for Cowher could stunt his growth and potential. What QB's has Cowher developed? Kordell Stewart, Neal O'What'shisname? Cowher has a much less than stellar rep when it comes to grooming QB's with his grind it out, ultra conservative system. I'd like to see Rothy play on a team that will use that golden arm to its fullest.

Actually I think Cowher did a solid job considering how little talent to play QB Stewart and O'Donnell had.
