If price isn't an issue, probably Madden. I own ESPN and it has great presentation, audio and a low price but it's not quite as deep as Madden is and it has one of worst menu systems I've ever seen.

Assuming you are talking about PC related games/sims........
Well, that all depends on what you are looking for. If you are indeed looking for a football "sim" then Madden nor ESPN is what you want IMO (nor is ESPN on the PC). The best PC football sim out there (with the most immersion) is TPF (Total Pro Football). Front Office Football is also great but its interface is ugly and very unimmersive that I cant get into it. |

TPF patched to 1.41 is the best bet IMO> FoF 2004 is great as far as a sim engine is concerned but it lacks immersivness. |

is the AI on TPF smart late in games? does it make right decisions when to run when ahead and goes for it on 4th if there behind, etc? how is the gameplanning? it is easy to use? or confusing? thanks |

FOF 2004 is a 3rd or 4th generation game (correct me on length) it has been out for a while and EA Sports offered it for a while. **link**
http://easports.ea.com/games/frontofficefootball2001/ TPF started with great expectations ... and is very good (I like it best). The changes at 400SS has left many concerned about the future of the game ......... It plays well on my system and problems have been few.

I've been playing FOF since the game came out(v1) and the current one is the best yet, is solid and immersive(though not as "attractive" as TPF, which is also good but not my personal game of choice).

I'm considering purchasing FOF, too. Does it have a detailed career mode? Is there anything resembling the Lahman database for football (I doubt there is....but hope springs eternal.)
What about Player Creation? Personally, I hate when games only give you the option to use an allotted amount of "points" to create a player. If I want to make a monster with the maximum amount of allowable points at each attribute, I should be able to do so. You should be able to toggle that option on or off. |

The reason neither FOF or TPF caught my fancy was because neither allows any sort of league size/alignment flexibility. You're stuck with the current day NFL setup. Even old Sierra's FB Pro at least gave you a few other league sizes to use if one wanted.
I just really hate been locked into one size of league and alignment. I prefer to at least have some sort of options in this area. |

The downside is no computer GM AI or career-mode in the first release, though you will be able to play from season to season and have the game keep career stats. The game (in development for 4 years) looks to finally be ready to be released yet this year (the game was previewed at the Hamilton - Toronto Labour Day CFL game). I can live without the career-mode and computer AI (actually, I prefer it that way). If the game provides half as much customizability has advertised, it will be my ultimate football sim.

Which game is better in terms of keeping a historical record book with career, single-season and game records? Actually, this is one area I wish OOTP would improve on with a more extensive list of season and game records (at least a top-25 for all-time single-season records instead of just the top person).
