Infield Fly Rule glitch
Kind of a humorous glitch in the infield fly rule. This was the scenario.
Less than two outs, runners on 1st and 2nd. Batter pops up. Normally I would agree with this call, and am impressed that the game is this indepth to include the infield fly rule. However, the PBP stated that the catcher made the catch BEHIND home plate. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that behind home plate would constitute a foul ball and would not be subject to the infield fly rule. Obviously the catcher would not gain a competitive advantage by allowing a foul ball to drop. Not really expecting a patch to fix this one in a million play, but thought it was kind of funny. JO |

You're right, it's a PBP glitch.

Remember, an umpire calls an infield fly with his last words being "if fair."

The umpire can call the IFR, and it can drift foul and be caught for an out in foul ground...I'ver seen it happen, most recently at Wrigley.
