Direct 3D wont disable

I just bought the game and I am still having major problems with the 3d text. I tried disabling the 3d text through the game configuration, that did nothing, i tried downloading the latest version of directX, that did nothing, i tried downloading the game from each of the mirror sites, that did nothing. This is driving me crazy, i cant see the game, why cant i disable the 3D text, does anybody have an answer?

Got it working, had to switch the screen resolution to 1024 x 768. But thanks for replying steve.
