Newly Drafted Players Have Signing History, Etc.

I converted my OOTP5 league to OOTP6 in middle of the 2008 season. At the end of May, 2009, I held my first amateur draft using OOTP6.

Some players in the draft already had "histories" listed on their player cards (i.e., in the lower right hand corner of the player card where it shows when drafted, signings, trades, injuries, first career hit, that sort of thing).

For example, the guy I drafted in the first round (age 18) supposedly was drafted by Texas in the second round of the 2004 draft 5 years earlier and was released a couple years later. Obviously, this is a glitch. It's impossible. He would've only been 13 years old at the time!

I figure it's either due to some strange glitch caused by my mid-season conversion from version 5 to version 6, or somehow the game is recycling old player numbers without deleting the "old" players' histories.

It's no big deal. I can live with it. But 2 questions. First, has anyone ever seen this? Second, is there some easy way to edit the transaction histories of these players to delete the erroneous data?

Thanks for any responses.

I know OOTP will recycle player ID numbers, so it's possible he was given the same ID number as the a player that is no longer in the league. Since the player histories are nothing more than text files (named p12.txt, p13.txt, etc...) the new players info was/will be written onto the old players player history file.

Easiest way to correct is to open up the player(s) in quesiton, and enable his photo. His ID number should appear (will be p###, for example p344). Go into your OOTP league directory, open up the news folder and then the player folder in that (don't have the game available so don't know the exact names). Find the p###.txt for the player, open in notepad or some other text editor and then take out the old info. Save the file and the in-game info should also be updated.

It's probably best to close the game before doing this.

It's easier than I made it sound, I do it all the time for one of my online leagues.

Bump.

Anyone have an idea why some of the newly drafted players in my 2009 amateur draft had player histories on their player cards (presumably from old and now retired players)? Is this (a) a bug, (b) a result of having converted my league from version 5 in mid-season in 2008, or (c) something that I inadvertently screwed up?

eh, did you read the post by statfreak?

recycled player ID numbers is the likely culprit.

Yeah, like statfreak, I suspected as much myself.

The issue is, if that's true, then it sounds like a bug.

Perhaps there's a way Markus can make sure that when the game recycles old player numbers, it automatically erases the old players' histories.

It should already be doing this; I just rolled over an OOTP6 league from one season to another, and when it created amateur players, it erased the old player histories when it recycled the player numbers.

Is there anything unusual besides the fact that you upgraded OOTP5 --> OOTP6 mid-season (which shouldn't have caused a problem as far as I know)? Like restoring a backup of the league directory, or possibly getting the league file from an online league instead of playing as a solo league?

Nope, A.J., nothing else unusual I can think of.

It's a solo league, so no online activity. Like I said, it was my first ammy draft using version 6, but I'd done six in OOTP5 before conversion.

If no one else has seen this, it may be just a fluke. A couple times my game's frozen up and I've had to go back and restore a recent backup of the league (after all, that's what back-ups are for).

If you had any hiccups during the off-season processing that the game performs when you Proceed to Next Season, this could cause some of those files not to get cleaned up properly.

This just happened to us in 2009 as well. Fine with 2008, but then overlapping this season. There were no interruptions, no hiccups, nothing but the game not deleting the retired players' histories...

Well, at least I'm not the only one!

Seems like this minor bug wouldn't be/shouldn't be too hard to fix. Anyone?

Also happened in my league last season, haven't checked yet if it happened again.
