Opinions wanted on fictional league records
I've recently started a fictional league (2 leagues, 16 teams, 140-game season) and I'm debating what I should do about records. Specifically, should I consider the rookie records set during the first year of the league as true rookie records?
Some of the players setting rookie records are hardly rookies. In fact, they're not even rookies based on the randomly generated service time. So I'm just asking for opinions. Should I keep the "rookie records" that will be set at season's end or should I erase them to allow real rookies in the future a realistic chance at setting records. The reason I'm considering this is because it's going to be hard for a rookie to have a .360 average or more than 40 home runs. The players setting these records are very much established. Thoughts? Opinions? |

IMHO, you should definitely delete rookie records after year 1. (Make sure you do it after 'Proceed to Next Season' so you can clear the rookie AVG too.)
The only exception would be if the player was... say... 25 or younger when he set it.

I always clear the rookie records of an initial season... this is something that I wish OOTP could hanlde on its own.

I have the same dilemma. While our leagues aren't set up the same (I have 36 teams, fictional players, 162 game season) I have the same issue. I am thinking about erasing the rookie stats after the first year. I will state that the leagues conception year will not allow for rookie records.

first year stats should not count because they are playing against other rookies at the same time while as in other seasons, rookies would be up against veterans. Just my 2-cent.

I usually delete the records after a few years (3+) because of the way that OOTP determines rookies. With fictional leagues until a person eats up a number of AB's or IP's, he is still considered a rookie. I often delete the ROY's also because I hate to see a 31 year old journeyman OF win the award in his 5th year of service because he kept coming up for cups of coffee with the big club.
After so many years, eventually all the rookie records are pure, with the rare journeyman having a bust out year. |

Is there anyway to delete the ROY winners from the Almanac? I did so in the ROY file, but it's still in Almanac. I decided after my first year that there would be no winner of the award.

Records
I blank my first-season fictional rookie records too. There are a couple of in-depth discussions on this in the forum archive.
