Any easy way to clear up transparency?

im getting lotsa transparency issues with logos. mostly in black areas, but a few white as well. is there any easy way to take care of this? resolution is 1400x1050, color is 32bit, NVIDIA GeForce4 460 Go graphics card updated, directx 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902).

you can see examples in the following thread as well as a solution ive tried, but to no avail

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...ht=transparent

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

True black (#000000) is transparent in the game.

If you have a graphics editing program, you should try going in there, and this is my most simple solution for you, change the hue/saturation just a bit, lighten it just a smidge.

If you don't have an option for hue/saturation (depending on the software) you can look for some sort of "brighten" option or something of the sort. Only the smallest change should be needed.

With just a touch, you can change true black into a shade of black that is so close that you won't even see the difference, and it should fix your problems.

This doesn't sound like a graphics card issue, it's the black.

As far as the white, I've never had an issue with it, so I don't really know what to tell you about that.

the only graphics editing software i have is the MS Paint that came installed, its version 5.1

what I've been doing is changing the RGB from 0,0,0 to 10,10,10 and then painting over those affected pixels. once i change the hue/sat, do i have to paint over all those pixels again? if so, thats what im trying to avoid. Its hard to find the exact pixel and then i have to convert with batchthumbs and check in game, start over, etc.....

Shub is 100% correct. Its the black that is giving you transparent colors. As far as ms paint goes I do not think that there is a way to change the hue/saturation or brighten it a few pixels. The only options that you have seem to be A) paint over all the black areas in mspaint with a slightly lighter shade of black (Which would be a real pain and take forever.) B) try a free version of a paint program out there with one of the afore mentioned options. Not really sure what is out there but I know there has to be one, and I am sure someone else could steer you in the right direction. C) Ask someone with one of the programs to do it for you. I have photoshop and I would have no problem giving you a hand with this. Its a pretty simple process that would only take a couple of minutes for a whole league.

Which brings up a good point, why does ootp use true black (0,0,0) which is very common for the transparent color instead of some funky shade of pink.

One good Buzz deserves another.

Irfanview is a great freeware image program and can solve your problem with true black in a few seconds. It can be downloaded here.

www.irfanview.com

Once installed, load the image and....

In the toolbar, click Image>Enhance Colors

In Color Balance, change the value for Black from 0 to 1.

Save the file, and Voila!

excellent! thank you very much, that did the trick. i cant believe i spent countless hours doing the paint over process on 6 logos and got the other 4 done in seconds. i shoulda asked a long time ago.
