OOTP6 Implementation of Rule 5 Draft

Hello Everyone,

In MLB, in order to participate in the Rule 5 draft, and to be able to draft a player, a team must have an appropriate opening on both the 25 man roster and the 40 man protected roster, in order to have an opening to place any player selected.

Does OOTP6 implement Rule 5 with the same rules? If a team has a full 25man & full40man, will it be allowed to make a selection, or will the engine skip over that team? Or will he engine allow the team to make a selection, and then require the team to drop a player at that moment?

Thanks for you help.

Teams must have an open spot on the 40 man I am sure, but don't know for certain about the 25.

I believe that in OOTP, the 25-man doesn't have any impact. You just need an open slot on the 40.

I take one guy in the Rule 5 and had to keep on the 25 all year long. As i see it you can´t be on the 25 without a spot on 40. So you need a place on both. For the Draft a spot on the 40 maybe you can free up one on the 25 later to follow the rule that the player has to stays on the bigs Roster

You don't have to have a spot on the 25 man roster. When you select a player it says 26/25 on the active roster. I think it makes you remove a player before you sim any games but I'm not positive.

So you must have a spot on the 25 if you can´t sim because you have 26 man on, you have a problem anyway. Sure to make the orginal signing you dont need the spot but you must leave the draftie on the 25 year long so you better have that spot left.

Correct. The drafted player winds up on the active roster and gets a spot on the 40-man. If you already have 25 players, it shows as "26/25", you need to demote one before playing/simming, but the game doesn't let you demote the Rule 5 player. He has to remain on the 25-man or the DL.

Hmm - I think we've come to the crux of it.

Hi Eveyone,

Thanks for all the input. I think we've concluded that there must be an opening on the 40, and that the 25 is a non-issue. If you have the opening on the 40, it will alllow a team to go over the 25. Then just a matter of removing some other player from the 25 to get back to the limit. If a team is at the 40 man limt, it will not be allowed to make a selection.

I think we've nailed this one down! Thanks again!

Mike
