Getting Unusual Statistics Out of OOTP6
I'm interested in gleaning certain information out of an OOTP6 league. For instance after each sim (say 10 games in each sim) I would like to have a list of those players which were the hot performers (based on a certain criteria - greater than 20 ABs or 10 IPs, then based on ERA or AVG or RBI, whatever I set) during that sim period. So I would like the output to be something like this:
Hot Hitters: Joe Jacobs 8 games, 35 at bats, .321 avg, 6 HRs, 18 RBIs Bill Henry 10 games, 43 at bats, .310 avg, 3 HRs, 12 RBIs etc. Hot Pitchers: Mark Stevens 3 games, 19 IP, 6 runs, 2.73 ERA, 18 Ks, 12 BBs etc. Similar to what OOTP generates for hot and cold players at the bottom of each team's roster page, but this would be for stats solely in the sim period. In other words is there a way to get access to this type of data and then write some code to give me this info after each sim. I can program in php/mysql but have never used BOSI. Is BOSI the way to go, and can it provide the ability to get this info? Or can I somehow access the OOTP player file and get it? Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks |

I know there is an OOTP6 csv exporter floating around that will dump pretty much anything and everything out of OOTP into a csv file.
Not sure if the info you are looking for is in there or not though. I've never used BOSI, so can't help you there.

Thinking some more, I guess if I could export my OOTP league file (player stats) into a mysql database, I could write a php/mysql program which could generate the facts I want.
Before sims export player data (just pitching and batting stats w/ players' names) into database #1 and then after the sim export the updated player data into database #2. A small php/mysql program could compare the two and given some criteria output the top performing players for that sim. The real question is can I export the player statistics from OOTP 6 into a mysql database easily without having to go through the whole BOSI route. Any thoughts? Thanks Edit - okay that exporter may be a good way to get at the data. I'll look into that. |

I would recommend using BOSI to load the stats into your MySQL DB. Really easy to setup. You don't have to use their front end, just query their DB. BOSI seperates out the stats of the last sim so you're one easy query from getting your hot/cold players.
I'm doing exactly that for the league I'm in. Customized front end. Have some custom reports (Positional Rankings , Rookie Leaders , etc..) IMO, why recreate the wheel when BOSI does a good job of pumping a DB full of stats for you. |

Thanks czzcr. Boy those reports look familiar, almost like I see them everyday. I'm in NGBL also - Yanks. Your site is fantastic there. I really like your positional rankings - do you specify a certain criteria to determine each player's ranking? Or is that set up automatically through BOSI. I guess I don't know where BOSI ends and your personal programming efforts start.
Is this right- BOSI does this: 1) It takes csv files (which are created using the csv exporter from a league's data file) and loads them into a database. 2) It can create a templated website using data from that database (I don't want) Is that all? So, I then can run my own queries using php/mysql against the BOSI created DB and generate my own reports based on certain criteria. Thanks Last edited by LawDawg; 07-22-2004 at 06:41 PM. |

LOL. Hey Dan.
That's what BOSI does though it doesn't just copy the CSVs into tables. It does comparisons and calculations to create new data. Don't know if you saw the discussion the NGBL board but everyone liked the XR formula when comparing batters, so I use that. The pitchers formula is something I threw together and could probably tweak some more when I have time. Nothing on the NGBL site is BOSI template. All the pages had to be created. I am just using the BOSI DB. So your statement is correct, "So, I then can run my own queries using php/mysql against the BOSI created DB and generate my own reports based on certain criteria." Okay, I installed the PHPtriad recommended BOSI central. Didn't go too bad. Got myphpadmin going. I downloaded and unzipped BOSI (latest ver). I created a new DB and was able to import all of the BOSI table structures. Then I made changes to the two files the instructions recommended inserting DB name, user, password, path, etc. Then I go and run bosi/admin/index.php?G lid=1 and I get a php error
invalid argument c:\apache\htdocs\bosi\lib\header.inc line 3 and get that stupid message asking if I want to send microsoft details about my life. Can't get past this point. I ran a quick "hello world" php program just to confirm that I have php going within Apache and it worked fine. If anyone can give some advice or recommend something. I looked for answers at BOSI central (though their free help forum says no system installation issues, that is covered under the pay area.) Thanks |
