LivnLegend's 2004 MLB All Stars
I've put together an All-Star team that could whip the pants off of the competition. This All-Star roster is not necessarily made up of the best player at each position. It is a 25 man roster with a specific special requirement taken into consideration. See if you can come up with a team that might compete with this one using the same secret special requirement I used.
STARTERS 1b Jim Thome 2b Alphonso Soriano SS Michael Young 3b Scott Rolen LF Barry Bonds CF Jim Edmonds RF Bobby Abreu C Jorge Posada BENCH DH David Ortiz OF Matt Lawton INF Rafael Furcal INF Aubrey Huff C Jason Kendall ROTATION SP Roger Clemens SP Pedro Martinez SP Randy Johnson SP - Carlos Zambrano SP Javier Vazquez BULLPEN Closer Eric Gagne RP Paul Quantrill RP Ugeth Urbina RP Brendan Donnelly RP Jason Isringhausen RP Billy Wagner RP Joe Nathan PS: I posted this in the OTBL and only 1 of those elitists even figured out the criteria used

Figuring out the criteria was simple. Putting together a better team would be tough.
Let's face it, Zambrano and Vazquez in the rotation are total gifts. Tough holes to fill. I would switch Rolen for Rodriguez (which has the bonus of requiring no other changes), but either one is suitable. Based on this year alone, I might switch Mulder for Pedro (again, no tangential changes). Unfortunately, I can't find an acceptable way to get Pudge behind the plate. Donnelly hasn't pitched since the ball-to-face incident, has he? Does he still qualify?

Props to TotalEnd for his suggestions. Brendan Donnelly has pitched in 12 games and has looked pretty sharp with 14 K's in 12 innings a .200 average against. Still, I'm sure his spot could be improved on the team. We could add Pudge, drop Rolen (tough drop, possible NL MVP), put Lowell at 3b and add a new "P" Rolen, A-Rod, Aramis Ramirez...easy to put an "R" at 3b!

Until now, I never realized that it is impossible to build a 26-man roster using your criteria. That's interesting.

Drop Lawton and Add Juan Pierre to the Outfield? Just a thought. Adds speed and Productive outs off the bench. Of course that is with Replacing Posoda with Rodriquez. But wouldn't you rather replace Kendall. Ok. Here's what you do. Drop Rolen, add Rodriquez at Catcher Remove Kendall and Place Posada on the bench. Remove Lawton and Replace him with Kotsay.

competition?
I don't know if it's competition- but my team certainly wins in a battle of marginal dollars per win! And I believe it's 24 different guys, by the way.
STARTERS 1b Todd Helton 2b Jose Vidro SS Juan Uribe 3b Adrian Beltre LF Adam Dunn CF Carl Crawford RF Vladimir Guerrero C Johnny Estrada BENCH C/INF/OF Brandon Inge 'Roids David Newhan Masher Bucky Jacobsen INF Kevin Youkilis C Humberto Quintero (fine, you find another 'Q' then) ROTATION SP Jason Schmidt SP Carl Pavano SP Al Leiter SP - Victor Zambrano SP Jake Westbrook BULLPEN Closer Mariano Rivera RP Ryan Madson RP Shingo Takatsu RP Danny Kolb RP Akinori Otsuka RP Jason Frasor RP Michael Adams And the letter 'U' is where I come up short. EDIT: I'm no longer short...nice job, attackemu! Craig Last edited by cknox0723; 07-20-2004 at 10:22 PM. |

Nice job!!!
U is a toughie, it's the only way I'd want Urbina on my team! I backed Vlad out on mine to include my homer pick of Gagne

Here's a team that could compete. And I don't think I re-used any players except Quantrill.

Nice work, Longhorns! Especially being the first to use Pujols.

So, someone mentioned this to me and suggested that I try to make a team with one person per last name, but only 1 player could be used per team. So I got cracking last night.....
1. Young, Michael (SS) - Texas Rangers 2. Beltran, Carlos (CF) - Houston Astros 3. Abreu, Bobby (RF) - Philadelphia Phillies 4. Lowell, Mike (3B) - Florida Marlins 5. Dunn, Adam (LF) - Cincinnati Reds 6. Overbay, Lyle (1B) - Milwaukee Brewers 7. Estrada, Johnny (C) - Atlanta Braves 8. Reyes, Jose (2B) - New York Mets Bench Ibanez, Raul (1B / OF) - Seattle Mariners Crisp, Coco / Rice Krispies / Generic Cereal (OF) - Cleveland Indians Nady, Xavier (IF / OF) - San Diego Padres Varitek, Jason (C) - Boston Red Sox Wilson, Jack (SS) - Pittsburgh Pirates Rotation 1. Johnson, Randy (SP) - Arizona D'Backs 2. Mulder, Mark (SP) - Oakland A's 3. Santana, Johan (SP) - Minnesota Twins 4. Hernandez, Livan (SP) - Montreal Expos 5. Zambrano, Victor (SP) - Tampa Bay D'Rays Bullpen Gagne, Eric (PROVEN CLOSER!) - LA Dodgers Percival, Troy (OTHER PROVEN CLOSER) - Anaheim Angels Urbina, Ugueth (OTHER OTHER PROVEN CLOSER) - Detroit Tigers Farnsworth, Kyle (RP) - Chicago Cubs Kline, Steve (RP / Loogy) - St. Louis Cards Takatsu, Shingo (RP) - Chicago "Pale Hose" Quantrill, Paul (RP) - New York Yankees I didn't use the Giants, Rockies, Royals, Blue Jays, or Orioles...... I guess this time, it doesn't count all that much....... |
