Pitch counts in deadball era
Playing a league starting in 1901 and noticed under 'Team Strategies', the computer teams seem to be setting a pitch count of 105/110 for any starting pitcher under a certain age, approximately 23.
This is causing some unusual stats, Christy Mathewson making 40 starts with 0 complete games despite an endurance rating of 99 for example. Probably the pitch count logic isn't needed for deadball eras, or perhaps the quantity should be much higher. |

Just a bit more info - after 2 seasons, here are the leaders in games started. You can see that youngsters like Mathewson, Noodles Hahn, Tom Hughes, Earl Moore, and Doc White threw a lot fewer complete games & innings because they were under 24. A guy like Jack Harper is a good example also; in 1901, he was 23 yrs old, and completed just 2 of 39 starts. In 1902, now he's 24, and completed 30 of 39 starts. |
