CatoBase 6.1.1 Update

Here's an update to CatoBase that addresses ALOT of things. Hopefully I didn't mess something up when fixing something else. There are so many changes, that there's a chance some annoying bugs slipped through. So, if you're easily aggrevated, you might want to wait and let some people try it out and see what happens.

Click the editorial link on my download page for a complete list of changes, but here are the major ones:

Fixed error that occured when an imported player's nickname included a double quote at the end of it. This can happen if the nickname is more than 15 characters. (Note: I don't think this 100%, but it should be better)

Fixed error that would prevent importing of player histories.

HOF page will now show players if they have simmed or pre-sim stats. Before, players had to have major-league level, simmed stats to appear on the page. However, these players still do not have player pages.

Added Salary Only option to Output tab of Options screen under Player Pages/Ratings. Checking this will output only the player's salary and not his ratings.

Added Draft History page for each team. Similar to the Positional chart, it shows the team's draft picks each year. For CatoBase to determine when a player was drafted, it finds the entry in his player history. Therefore, you need to import Player Histories in order for draft picks to be displayed.

Added Drafted Players section to league pages. This page will show the draft picks for that year along with their major league career totals. If they do not have any major league stats, their career minor league totals are shown.

Removed OWS%, PWS%, and DWS% from Miscellaneous Stats section of League pages. Added Park Run Factor (PRF) and Park Home Run Factor (PHrF).

CatoBase will now import Hall of Famers when importing data. Changes can still be made by clicking Edit/Hall of Fame. Note that HOFers will not be imported for the first season. Since these players retired before the season, they do not have any stats for the season and therefore do not get imported into the database.

Step 2, Generate HTML reports in OOTP, is no longer necessary. Instead of using the HTML files, CatoBase will now use the text files located in the League_News_Box directory under the league directory. If you have to redo a previous season and you only have the HTML files and not the text files, CatoBase will use the HTML files automatically.

There is one exception to this. If the schedule_game.csv file is incorrect, CatoBase will need the league.html file to get the playoff results. If this is necessary, a text box will pop up asking for league.html to be copied to the data directory. Generate the pages in OOTP, if necessary, and copy this file to the indicated directory. CatoBase will then use it to get the playoff results like previous versions.
Added the ability to delete the most recent season from the database. This should reset the database and allow the season to be reimported. Just click Delete XXXX Season, where XXXX is the year that will be deleted, from the Database menu. If the season being deleted is the only season in the database, all data will be deleted.

Readme updated with changes. Added more detail, including a new section on expansion, contraction, and team movement.

Do I need to re-run my previous 29 seasons in 6.1.1, or will the new stuff be available if I just run it after each succeeding season? I can already guess what the answer will be, but I wanted to ask just in case.

Regardless, I'm very excited to give this a whirl. It might just take me a week or so. :-)

I'm not (usually), so I gave it a whirl. Ran into a problem right off importing data from a league when it was still in V5...

While "Creating player's pitching stats for each team" had:
Run-time error '-2147467259 (80004005)'
Field 'Pitching.Team' cannot be zero length

This was the first year of the league. The error occurred when processing for a pitcher who had one appearance (0.1Inn, 1K) who was then immediately released that same day for refusing assignment to minors. He was signed by another team 6 weeks later, then released for refusing assignment to minors 2 months after that, but he never had another appearance for that second team. Of course I don't know, but it seems not actually pitching for this second team is a problem. Or maybe it has to do with being released the day of his only appearance for the first team.

Anyway, had not had this problem with 6.0.0 (or 5.3). Did make sure it was set to read a V5 league. And tried it using both freshly exported csv files as well as the old ones.

I couldn't even install it.

I must be a ****** or something. Went to the site, downloaded 6.1.1 FULL version (not the update), unzipped to my desktop, but when I hit the "setup" icon, it went through the first 7 dll files then told me some of my files were out of date and it couldn't finish installing. I had two options, cancel or get the system to update the files, I tried them both, but neither worked.

Am I missing something here?

Do I need an earlier version of the CatoBase first - in order to update it?

I downloaded the full version off equalnicity. What's going wrong?

Well this all stinks. First off, I've removed the full 6.1.1 file and replaced it with the 5.4.0 file and updated the update to get people from 5.4 (or 6.0) to 6.1.1. Hopefully this will let new people install and get it running. I'll look into why the setup program is not working.

I guess it depends on which stuff you're talking about. For instance, if you have been importing player histories for all 29 seasons, the update will use those to figure out the draft picks for all 29 seasons. You don't need to reimport those seasons, but you would need to uncheck the Current Year Only box under the League/Team Pages on the Output Tab to have those pages recreated.

Hey jcato, love this utility.........but may have found some bugs.
As I've only got 3 years under my belt in my solo league, I rebuilt the database using the backed up stuff.

1. Players are showing up some team pages who were never on that team for that year. I've only seen this so far on my team. ie Deivi Cruz is showing up on my team page for 2005, but I'm positive I never acquired him.

2. Some players are showing up in trades in the transactions lists that weren't part of the trades.

A little digging reveals all these players appear to be players that were listed (ie waived) in ltrans.html right after the trades that are made and are showing up as being acquired by one of the teams.

To make your day even more, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not ,but the drafted player lists are full of veterans and not draftees.
ie apparently Marquis Grissom was my first pick in 2006!!!

Nice to be back in the fold using this great util.

One question...how long should a 24 team, 4 division league take to output 85 years of HTML pages? This laptop has been kicking out pages for hours. If I output pages every 5-10 years, do I have to use the output pages for every year option (sorry, don't have the exact name...pages are churning)? If so, is there any way to make it so that only the pages that are needed are produced? I think we had this conversation with release 4 and the answer was not easily.

Not a complaint, just curious.

Thanks again. It makes following the league much more enjoyable.

Just letting you know that I too am having the same problem as bronco6710 with my OOTP5 solo league. Worked fine with 6.0.0 and 5.3.
