Officially P-ed Off

My game crashed for the 5th season in a row. I have 6.03 installed.

I was trying to run a 1970 season, which I was able to do a week ago. Now, with the new patch installed, it crashes randomly. I was able to finish a couple, didn't like my totals, so I adjusted the totals and tried again. Crash. Restart game. Restart Season. Sim Season. Crash. Restart game. Restart season. Sim Season. Crash.

It's pretty annoying.

You really need to give alot more info about exactly when this happens and your system info. Plus, I'm moving this to the proper forum.

My apologies. I had no idea there was a forum. I thought it all went under Version 6 stuff. Ah well.

I'm confused as to why my system would have anything to do with it as it never happened before. But, I'll give it a try anyway:

Win XP
1.5 Pentium Processor
Compaq computer
512 MBs of Ram
about 15-20 gigs of HD space

As for when it happens, well that's pretty much just up to the game. One time it was barely a month into the season. Another time it was August. Another time it was June. It happened just right in the middle of a day.

I had everything on computer control, and now that I'm talking it out I remember there being a problem with the computer putting people in on the same position, or the same person in on two positions. So, I'll go in and check that out. I really wouldn't have a problem if I didn't have to restart the season, because after the crash all the previous stats were wiped out. There was no one listed under the Batting Average, OPS, ERA leaders.

Again, I apologize for putting this in the wrong section. I was just upset last night. It's been a rough couple of days. But if you have any insight, please let me know. Thanks again!

I've found that my game locks up when the screensaver kicks in, and there's nothing I can do to get it back. Oftentimes it corrupts my league file too. My fix is to turn off the screensaver while playing, and back up often.

Not that that's necessarily your issue, but it's a suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestion, but much like you I turn off the screensaver. I had it working for a couple seasons in a row after I turned financials on, but then it just crashed again. This time, however, the season was saved and I could continue.

I've also had the same problem with the Rule V draft. With that, I click "Proceed to Rule V Draft" and it crashes. Before, I was able to actually see the draft order and there were multiple spots taken by the same team. So I just disable that.

I've had similar troubles--usually when simming multiple years (though that's all I've been doing lately, so who knows.) In another thread, someone suggested running OOTP6 on Windows 2000. I'm trying that, and it seems to work. I have no idea why, except perhaps some kind of black magic, but I would prefer a more rational explanation.

No, that didn't do it. After two or three sim years, I got a run time error. (It doesn't seem to be a screensaver issue, either.) This is weird. I can't recall anything like this happening before 6.03. Any ideas? I'm pretty computer illiterate, but I can post specifics if need be--just let me know which specifics. Thanks,

MB

Well, giving me as much info about your system would help.....OS, RAM, other programs running, free HD space.

I hope this helps.

It's Windows XP (2000).
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 1.80 Ghz
128 MBs of RAM
1.79Ghz

It's a Gateway Computer.

And, like I say, the game will occasionally, frequently crash. To confuse things even more, I may remember receiving a driver error at some point. Does that sound right/possible? I'll have to apologise in advance for the vagueness--computers are not my bag. Thanks for your help though.

I should add that I'm not using roster sets, only fictional.

Have you guys tried rt. clicking on the ootp 6 desktop icon and running it in windows 2000 compatability mode? I know it sounds nuts, but it resolved my crashing issues with XP (keeps fingers crossed).

I never heard of that, but it might be worth a try. I would like to know why it won't work in XP mode though.

I tried that but it still crashed. See post above. I'm glad to hear it's working for you, though.

If it's a driver error, possibly you need to update your drivers. Scan your windows at this site, and see if it comes up with any updates required.

I tried the switching to Win2000 compatibility, and it seems to be better, but it has crashed while in that mode. After just reading Henry's post, it got me wondering: "Is IE required to run this?" Because IE is not my default internet browser. Or, maybe it's the fact that the computer with OOTP is not even connected to the internet? I'm just talking out loud, trying to see what was different from the last time (and that is mainly 6.03).

Thanks awk. I'll try it. The list of critical and recommended updates--there are six--don't look all that spectacular, but I'll add them nonetheless. Similarly, the one driver update has something to do with video. Still and all, perhaps it's time for a tune-up.

I believe the IE is used throughout the game to produce several of the report (at least, your default browser is). Try setting your default browser to IE and see what occurs... it can't hurt at this point right?

EDIT: just found this post by Henry:

http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...9&postcount=73

in which he states that Markus DOES use IE routines... so changing your default browser could resolve your issue...

Hmm. Thanks Rookie. I'm on it. It has been a lot better though since I switched to Win2000 compatibility. Thank you whoever suggested it!

It's not that. I only use Mozilla Firefox and I haven't had OOTP6 crash at all. In fact I would imagine the game would be MORE stable if you didn't use IE because then malware/spyware wouldn't be installed as easily and it is less likely IE would be corrupted.

And that's why I also use Mozilla. It's a lot more stable than IE. Well, this is an awful headscratcher then.
