incentive points question

in an online league that gives incentive points- here is my question

you have a choice to increase rating points and talent level- if u choose to increase a talent level from average to good does it make sense on that same player to increase his rating points or does increasing the talent level automatically increase the rating points.

the question is should u only pay points to increase i of the 2 and use the saved incentive points to raise another player talent or ratings level.

additional question is which one is better to raise- talent or ratings level.

The talent rating is the maximum possible amount of "skill" a player can reach.
An increased talent rating doesn't nescesarily translate into an increased points, however, it is possible the players actual rating may increase.

It really depends on the situation. If the guy is a 24 year old 4 star prospect, increasing talent might be good if he's maxed out in one field.
If the player is a 29 year old 1B who hasn't quite reached his maximum talent, you might be better off just giving him a ratings bump.

think of

Think of ‘talent’ as ‘apparent potential.’

Think of ‘ratings’ as ‘apparent current skill.’

Here is maybe the easiest way to understand TALENT versus RATINGS. TALENT is the maximum "rating" a player can achieve at the present time. It goes up and down over time and is represented by the Yellow area below. RATING is the current performance of a player and can vary anywhere between 1 and the TALENT rating. It changes value independently of TALENT but is limited by the TALENT maximum.

In the sample below, the player reached hi maximum potential in the 6th timeframe. Even though his TALENT increased for the 7th and 8th timeframe, his RATING dropped by the 8th timeframe. RATING can also go down, even though TALENT goes up - as is shown in timeframe 11.

Are you sure your league allows you to assign points to the talent part?

This isn't necessarily so. I see ratings fairly often which are higher than the player's talent. I was trying to explain it to myself as being what the scout thinks, rather than the "true" ratings. But that doesn't make sense, because ostensibly it's the same scout evaluating both the current rating and the talent.

When I see ratings higher than talent I assume it means his ratings are about to come down, but I play every game so I go too slow to notice if this happens or not.
