...seems to have taken a bump...
Does the phrase "Joe Bloe's control seems to have taken a bump..." imply a gain or loss?
In my way of speaking, a bump is a rise. (e.g. a bump in salary) But it occurs so often in V6 that I wonder if it's actually supposed to be communicating a drop in skill. Does anyone know if it's just a language issue like we see once in a while in OOTP?

I believe in OOTP6, a bump is a decrease.

Im actually pretty sure it's an increase. A bump implies going up and the talent would increase then.

A "bump" was a decrease in OOTP5, and it still is in OOTP6.

It's a language variation between American and German. The terms used are "increase" (obvious) and "bump" = decrease. Think of "bump" as follows....
Synonyms DEGRADE 1, break, bust, declass, demerit, demote, disgrade, disrate, downgrade, reduce |

OK. I must confess that I'm a little surprised that it wasn't blatantly obvious to everyone that when they "take a bump", the numbers go *down*, rather than *up*.

![]() Sure it is counter-intuitive, but it has been counter-intuitive for long enough that I assumed it was common knowledge. I *know* it worked this way in OOTP5, and, if I recall, I think it was this way even back in OOTP4. |

Wow. I always assumed it was an increase, since that's actually a phrase I use anyway, e.g. telling a friend happily, "Jones just got a fielding bump."

If you bump someone off, all their ratings decrease (to zero). That's the way I remember it.

Depends on the wording:
"taken a bump" would be a decrease, as it was bumped downwards. "given a bump" would be an increase. I'm not sure if OOTP uses this terminology though.

This is one of my biggest problems with 6.
The numbers make the talent bumps seem so inpersonal. Before it was a joy to see when you went from a bad rating to a good one or a good to a bad but now with the numbers for talent, it just does not feel the same. I am probably going to have to live with it but there should be an option for whether you want numbers or maybe the 1-5 scale could be replaced with poor, fair, avg, good, brillant. Thanks Art |
