a font question
i was wondering if someone could explain how fonts work. the problem i am having is that i have found and installed all these new fonts but my graphics program(windows picture it!) does not recongnize them thus i can not use them, as far as i can tell it uses only open type fonts but all my new fonts seem to be true type, so what is the difference and why cant i use the others?

im not sure really.. but when i DL fonts, i put them in the "c:\windows\fonts"
if they dont disappear in photoshop, i double click on them, then they will be available.. im not sure but it works for me..

This may or may not be your problem, but if you install a font while your program (like Photoshop) is open, you will need to exit and then restart the program, otherwise it won't recognize the new font.
Another possibility is that you're installing them into the wrong place (though I doubt it). Like pat said, they need to be extracted (installed) into the C:\Windows\Fonts folder. Let us know if you're still having problems. EDIT - what graphics program are you using? |

i dont know what i did but now they are showing up... i know for a fact that they where in the windows/fonts folder (and been there for a couple of weeks too) but last night they would not show up for me, but now for whatever the reason right now they are? the only thing i can think of that i did was that i am using a program called Fontlister to compare fonts and at firsts only the open type where showing up until i hit a refresh button, either that or my comp need a restart?... anyway it seems to be working now, dont you just love windows?

i just tried an experiment, i unzipped a new font into my windows/fonts folder, but when i tried to use it, it wouldnt appear on my program. so i next went into my fonts folder, found the font file, double clicked it then closed the window, and now it appears. so my question now is, do you have to 'install' a new font?

1. Download all the fonts you want to any directory you choose.
2. Go to your 'Control Panel' 3. Double-click on Fonts 4. Click on 'File' then 'Install New Fonts' on the dropdown menu. 5. Navigate to the download directory, highlight them all, then Click on OK You're good to go. |
