OOTP5 - A case for the "X-Files?"
Just before starting our 2004 season I was setting up player photos when I noticed that Randy Johnson's wasn't being used.
"Strange" I thought... so I checked the exported .cvs file and sure enough, no Randy Johnson. So I pegged it as a BOSI exporter problem and I loaded my OOTP5 and checked it out. Going through the Almanacs I can see that Randy pitched for Sarasota in 2002 (34 starts). There were no trades involving Randy, no extensions etc... he was a member of Sarasota making a cool $9.5 million (I think it was) BUT, looking at the 2003 almanac he no longer exists! Looking at league transaction he was not traded or cut from the roster - he just vanished into thin air... ---------------------------------------------- Has this occurred to people before between seasons? I see no reference to Randy at all in 2003... how can that be? We play in an online league where teams sim either 8 or 10 games (depending on inter/intra division) at a time. The schedule has several occurances where some teams sim 8, and others 10 during a single week. All the games are imported into the "central computer" before moving to the next week... |

No... he did not retire... I checked that as soon as I realised he was missing...
There is no trace of him at all.... (maybe it is time to call 911?) |

Clearly this is an alien abduction case.

Which version of V5 ? Earlier versions (prior to 5.14b) had a disappearing player problem that was fixed.

We are all running the latest (5.14b)...
of course, that is now... I have no idea what we were running at the time between the 2002 and 2003 seasons... I guess we'll mark him up as having suffered a career ending injury - don't really want to try to "re-introduce" him into the league now.... |

I'll bet money the earlier version was the root cause of this. Probably no one would have ever noticed had it not been a premier player.

Well... I ended up going through all our "r" files in the newsbox folder and who do I find? Randy Johnson....
Seems the guy retired with absolutely no fanfare... not even a single mention in the newspaper... bizarre
