Expansion
I am thinking of expanding my league for the next season. Here is my plan and tell me what you think. After the World Series I will expand my league to 32 teams- 4-division leagues. I will then take control of the two teams and without players advance to the next season.
To get players on the team I thought I would hold my own mini draft but of course do it manually. First I will run computer manager on each team. Each expansion team must choose two players from each team and will alternate as such: Team A will select one player Team B will select two players Team A will select two players Team B will select two players etc until finally Team B selects one player It doesn't matter when the teams selects their players from each team as long as they select two from each A few rules: An expansion team can only select one player from any one teams 25 man roster and the same for the 40-man roster 4-5 star players are automatically protected provided they are signed to a non-minor league contract even if they are in the minor leagues No team can lose more than one 4-5 star player meaning if team A chooses 5 star John Smith from the Royals then Team B cannot take a 4-5 star player from the Royals No player can be chosen that bats 4th or higher in the line-up. I put this is here because running computer manager on all teams gives an arbitrary way of telling us who like what players. This is a solo league so the AI doesn't know there is an expansion draft. I know this isn't realistic but by being objective I think I can expand my league. After all is done I will run computer manager on all teams; release control of the expansion teams and get on with free agent signings that all teams would take part in. What do you think? Did I miss anything? Did I type way too long? Thanks for any feedback. |

Don't be so quick to judge MrE
Your post was only up since Midnight, and you have to give the folks a few days to see your post and filter out the ones that have an opinion.

Don't forget to turn off rule 5 for the first year or the game will crash.

Wouldn't expanding before end of season cause that year's Almanac to forever show 2 teams with a 0-0 record?

I believe you're right D Love. I remember reading somewhere on here that you should wait til after proceed to next season to expand. I did an expansion in a historical career league, expanding during the pre-season after the proceed button. While his method is very thourough those looking for a quick way to expand.
Go through all existing teams and release two players from each teams ball club. Give the expansion teams TV contracts and Merchandising revenue from the previous year and some cash. How much is up to you. When signing free agents turn all teams to human controlled except for the expansion teams. Let only the expansion teams sign FA's for the first 20 days. Then turn all other teams back to computer control. Editing the first year draft order is up to you. I didn't do it because of the advantage they had in FA signing. This seemed to work well for me. The two expansion teams were fairly horrible for the first year. One competed in year two(see DBacks) til about August and then faded. The other was still horrible for years (see DRays).
