Pinch hitting in early historical leagues

I'm calling this a bug because it wasn't a problem until the latest patch...

The AI now pinch hits for its starting pitcher in the 8th inning of close games, even if winning by three runs and throwing a shutout (and of course I'm implying--now stating--that the pitcher isn't tired). Pre-6.02A the AI would only pinch hit if losing in the 9th. This is a serious dent in historical playability.

Doesn't happen all the time, but it happens--which is more frustrating because I can't identify what causes it. I'm guessing that the AI is looking at pitches thrown vs available pitches because it seems that lower endurance pitchers are the ones most affected, but again the pitchers aren't tired.
